Have I already ruined my chances?

Okay, I am a Sophomore in high school, here are my current Academic Standings.

Freshman G.P.A. = 3.3

and for my Sophmore year I've decided to take all honors, (I hope to be an Aerospace Engineer when I grow older)

Current Soph. G.P.A= 3.0

The Honors classes aren't working very well with me.But I know my Junior year, I can get a 4.0 easily, as long as I don't take honors. I will also take AP Phsyc; which is a complete joke at my school.

I am on Varsity on my Schools Cross Country team.
I run Track and Field.
I teach French at the local library.
I am interning at NASA during the summer of 2011.
I work with a small Healthcare company.
I'm not taking the ACT until June, but I took the PSAT and did well.

The Colleges I would like to go to would be (in order of most preferred):

Dartmouth
Cornell
Embry Riddle Aeronautical Institute (They've invited me to a Summer Academy)
Ohio State University Main Campus (Not the other crappy campuses)
Rice
Brown
MIT
John Hopkins

I don't know if I have already ruined my chances at these because of my low grade or not. Chance please. I'll chance back.

Your chances would be worse if you took academic level courses instead of honors.

I agree, you should take honors classes rather than regular.

Other than that, we can’t really chance for anyone below senior, especially someone who hasn’t taken the ACT/SAT.

A brief analysis: nice ECs, although what about other things? Do you play an instrument, do service hours, are you in any interest clubs (like a video game club, for example). Right now it seems to me like you’re only involved in sports and engineering. Nice, but colleges also want to see that you’re diverse.

Take the honors classes. Get a tutor if you need one. It’s better than regular level. Or at least, don’t take ALL regular level. Usually honors English is a decently easy class, as is the honors level of whatever foreign language you take. It’s stupid to let these pass you by.

(sorry if this seemed a teensy bit harsh, btw.)

Not harsh at all. Thanks!
Yeah, I know there isn’t much to say if I haven’t taken either the ACT/SAT.
I was just hoping there was still a chance to get into any of those colleges.

Dropping the most rigorous course load would definitely be a mistake.

Dartmouth, Cornell, Brown, MIT and Hopkins are pretty much out of reach for you.

Out of reach? Even if I get high SAT/ACT scores?

Yes. However there are plenty of other great schools that you could set your sights on as a goal. Any idea what major you’re interested in?

Oh.
I wanted to go into Aerospace Engineering, that’s why I was interested in Embry Riddle. Any other that you know of?

as others have said, it’s hard to say since you’re only a sophomore; however, if you’re struggling in honors courses, you’ll probably have trouble getting into some of the schools on your list. on the other hand, if you pick the right levels for you and do well in them and have great ECs, you could definitely still have a chance. just focus on doing the best you can do and challenging yourself, while finding a list of colleges with a range of selectivity.

I’m sorry I can’t help at all with an aerospace major. But take the honors classes, get the work done, and study hard for the ACT/SAT and you’ll be fine. To be honest if you can’t handle the honors classes at your school, you wouldn’t succeed at those schools anyways.

Okay. Thank you.
