I’m a sophomore in high school and it just occurred to me that I only have a few years left to decide what I want to do, and I have no clue what I’m going to do for the rest of my life. Most of my interests revolve around social/artistic occupations, however I’m a bit hesitant about approaching any occupations in those fields because I am aware of the amount of competition in those jobs and the difficulty of landing a good job in those fields that still
makes a decent amount of wage. I’d love anything to do with creative writing or public relations/social marketing but it just doesn’t seem realistic. Any help?
that’s totally fine! most people have no idea in college either…
for now, just do some soul searching. think of things you like. look at curriculums for different majors at different college and see if any classes pop out to you as YES I WANT TO TAKE THIS! or NO, HELP. that may help you decide a major.
in terms of creative writing, pr, marketing…those are all great majors! look into majors at LACs for inspiration. marketing, management/leadership, and communication majors are both common and challenging in a good way! lots of students with a creative side like these majors…plenty of jobs but plenty of room for creativity (esp. marketing).
yes, not all artsy jobs are high paying…but for now, you should worry more about deciding what you’re interested in! you don’t want to be stuck with a job you don’t like, right?
good luck!
