Have there been longshot Ivy stories?

Yeah, anywhere I can find or read about them please send them my way!

Yes. As a joke, I decided to throw in applications to Harvard and Princeton. I had a 3.2 at an average school and an 1170. Only ECs were bowling and cheerleading squad.

Long story short, I got into both. It's all a myth that those schools are hard to get in. All the kids they reject have under 3.0/1000.

I wouldn't call football players with abov average but not "ivy-caliber" stats long shot because they do contribute to campus life, and most importantly the school. So hmmnn...

suze

are you serious???

You have to take every story with a pinch of salt. Suze goes to an extremely prestigious and rigorous prep school - probably Deerfield Academy; it might be a "feeder" school for Harvard. Not sure but do a search on her posts. A 3.2 here is probably a 4.0 somewhere else.

She could also be a legacy for all you know...

These "feeder" schools are in a category by themselves. A regular run-of-the-mill valedictorian from a regular run-of-the-mill Northeast high school (suburban, middle-class) looks cookie cutter compared to students from these schools. The vals and sals from these suburban schools are a dime a dozen.

Plus the "feeder" schools have influence in the halls of Ivy like nobody's business. One phone call from the GC, and if you are on the waitlist, you get in. I can point you to posts from last year that illustrate the case in point.

Suze said an AVERAGE SCHOOL, not Deerfield

And those stats are weak coming from Deerfield- you would not get into a top Ivy

No, do a search on her posts...

achat, that's not true

The top schools (Andover, Exeter, St. Pauls) do not send a majority of their class to Ivies

Deerfield, Choate, etc. send even less

Ok, WesternMass. It is still misleading to tell someone they would get in. Suze must be extraordinary in some way that we don't know.

However, point taken.

She is only a rising senior. She has high SAT's with a 3.8 and is in top 5%

Why doesnt suze tell us helself. Suzeeeeeeeeeeee helloooooooooo... Callinnnnnnnggg on Suzeeeeeeeeee....

No need. Read this:

See post number 14. To quote:
"T, I think you're confused. At Deerfield, a majority of kids apply ED or EA somewhere, and most not just at HYP. Where did you fet this idea?

Talk to your counselor. While about a third go to top schools, remember how many are legacies. I'm a legacy from Andover with a higher GPA and SAT, and I'm not counting at my lower ivy even given legacy. You have a chance just don't count on it."

Check and mate.

Yeah, but suze doesnt ATTEND Deerfield. Look at some of her other posts.

How about me? Do I count as a "long shot" lol

Sorry, just making a little joke, didn't think anyone would take it seriously. I actually go to Andover. Andover, Exeter, Deerfield, St Paul's and Groton all send over 30% a year to ivies, S or M, but no one with the scores I gave would get in EXCEPT the super wealthy. They bring up the bottom of the class at all top preps and manage their way into iview too.

so what were your real scores, suze?

So the answer is..... no?

Top 5%, 2360 on new SAT, 3 800 SATIIs, double legacy and still scared!
