Does a minor misdemeanor for an out-of-state car accident count on college applications?

Yes. Just state clearly that it was a car accident misdemeanor. You'll be fine.

They're not going to ding you if you got into a car accident.

So do I have to post it or should I just select no?

As long as it wasn't a drunk driving charge.

Put it down, as T26E4 already said. Honestly, someone writes, "Just state clearly that it was a car accident misdemeanor" and the OP asks whether he/she should post it. My goodness.

I'm not sure, but I'm fairly certain you have to list any legal history. I know a guy who got into UNC with halfway decent stats (in-state, though) after convicted of a misdemeanor.

sn3:
"Have you ever been convicted of a misdemeanor, felony, or other crime?"

Is the answer YES or is the answer NO?

The question is not "Have you ever been convicted of a misdemeanor, felony, or other crime excluding an out of state car accident misdemeanor"

I say you practice civil disobedience and neglect to report it.

Listen to T26E4. He's right across the board.

Don't you remember Bill Murray's classic answer to that question in "Stripes"?

"Convicted? No, never convicted . . ."

What if I have been charged but not gone to court yet? Will colleges find out if I apply ED (November 1)?

Technically they won't find out unless you tell them, so you should tell them, because you shouldn't lie on your app. And plus, it's not like you shot someone. It's a car ACCIDENT. It probably won't hurt your chances for college, because getting into a car accident is kind of irrelevant.

If you haven't been to court yet, you haven't been "convicted" and therefore you need not report anything. You may be acquitted or have some other resolution entered into the record. The charges may be dropped.

You must, however, respond Yes if you have been convicted.

What about speeding tickets?

Since you haven't been convicted you should answer "No" unless you've been convicted of another misdemeanor, felony, or other crime before.

Even if you have not been convicted, but you are awaiting a trial or something, you should indicate that you are awaiting a trial for a car accident. They will appreciate being told.

Speeding tickets are civil fines, not crimes. Unless you're actually charged for a criminal violation, they don't count.

I wouldn't put it down. It's none of their business.

Of course it's their business.
