Hi,
Do you guys have an experience (or at least a suspicion) where you were being graded unfairly by TAs just because somehow you ended up having them not like you?
Probably the opposite. As a teacher, if I find myself disliking a student - extremely rare but it can happen - I go to extreme lengths to anonymize essays so that I’m grading them for content, not author. And if there’s a student whose views I happen to disagree with, I am super careful to base grades on an objective rubric (e.g. three peer-reviewed sources etc) rather than subjective agreement with their argument.
Grades have nothing to do with how much I like you - they are a measure of performance. Sure, I feel bad if a student who I like gets a low grade, but I’m not grading my enjoyment of being in their company.
If you have actual evidence or have suspicions, go to the professor during office hours and ask about your marks…Ask what they were looking for or what to change to get full credit. That way you are not calling out your TA but the prof is looking at how you are marked. Also if you have evidence of them not liking you, you could say “I would like to ask your advice about working with TA Pat. When I raise my hand, I never get called on (or whatever it is you have as evidence). I am not sure why s/he ignores me…what would you suggest?”
