As a high school student I finished in the top 25% of my class at a large and pretty competitive high school.
I had a 3.4ish gpa with an 1210/1600SAT ( I went through some personal problems that I believe prevented me from living up to my potential)
I was president of my class three consecutive years, involved with a couple other clubs and a member of the national honor society.
I had a part time job, had extensive volunteer hours with school/community.
Great recomendations from school/church and was given a community service award by a local legislator at the end of senior year.

At a local community college (Top 15 CC in the country) I have raised my GPA to a 3.84 and was elected to serve on the executive board of the student government while being an active member of the Political Science Club. I work part-time and continue to volunteer.

So Haverford is without a doubt my dream school and Swarthmore is a close second....I would apply as a transfer and enter as a junior polysci major.

Do I have a shot? and anyone with some first hand info about Haverford or Swarthmore that is interesting would be greatly appreciated

I think the fact that you have attended a CC and worked hard to raise your GPA is in yur favor. Haverford is a very competitive, yet holistic school in my experience. Have you met with an admissions officer yet? If not, I would do that ASAP and ask them direct questions about how they might view your application and what you might do to improve it. Haverford very much wants students for whom the school is a good fit. If you can express why you think HC is the right place for you and demonstrate your desire to attend, perhaps that will help make your case. I wish you the best of luck!

I have not visited with an admissions counselor yet buy I am planning to visit the campus in a couple weeks (I live about 3hours away so it is the first time I will be visiting)…do you think they would speak with prospective students like myself? I appreciate the reply and the words of encouragment!

I am sure that they would meet with you. HC is a very small school and is very big on the personal touch. I think this would you an opportunity to talk with them about your questions and concerns and get some answers so that you won’t have to try to guess. Good Luck. I hope that is all works out for you!

it’s strange that you call it your dream school and haven’t visited at all being not that far away. admissions would certainly talk to you with much interest. you will get in.

As a high school student I finished in the top % of my class at a very competitive high school.
I had a 4.68 GPA with an 1420/1600SAT , too bad I did not apply to this school.

how essential are SAT Subject tests in haverford. I am from Nepal and here, i just studies subjects like Econ, Accounts, Business and Maths. In which subject should i give my SAT 2 if i even dont even know any other foreign language and history? Or is it optional (i dnt think so). I really like the area and haverford as a whole.

I have 4.0 GPA thats the maximum possible here.
I am the publisher of a national youth newspaper.( it is not a college project.haha)
i am affiliated with few NGOs.
I am a part-time teacher at a highshool currently.
I havent given my SAT. i will be doing so in Oct-9th.

do i have any chance? Is SAT SUbject tests, mandatory?
