Having a panic attack

GUYS! My counselor just told me that they put my German grade from 7th grade on my transcript. I got a C and a D, because I didn’t try, and had mental health issues. It’s not factored into my GPA, and it doesn’t count as a credit. Am I out of the running for any top 40 school?

I doubt it imo. From what i remember (in other chats) you’ve been doing well in German. It’s not in your GPA and it’s not credit so admissions people shouldn’t put a lot of weight on it.

@Candyblossom1245 I took German 1 again as a freshman, because I took a break year, and I scored an A+ both semesters. I do not even know why they are leaving it on my transcript in the first place.

@VANDEMORY1342 What do you think?

Relax. I don’t think any colleges count grades given in middle school.

I suggest you stop focusing on top schools. It’s a mindset that leads to disappointment and despair. Ensurethat you apply to a range of schools, and do not ingore safety and match schools. You don’t want to be posting that you only have one choice come decision time.

@Lindagaf Should I apply to Boston College (don’t even look at MS grades)

BC is a safety for no one. Your question is way too broad, and I do not do chances. Try posting in the college search and selection thread. List your stats and potential majors, along with preferences for the type of college you would like. .

I would not worry that much about it since most colleges do not look at your middle school grades, as they are irrelevant to how you have been doing for the past four years in high school. My dad told me not to worry that much about my eighth-grade grades (I failed many classes due to poor health), because he works for colleges and acceptance, and says that they do not look at middle-school grades because you have changed a lot since then, and it’s really the effort you put into changing and the advancements you have made.

@Berniedog I have an upward trend (all As now), so I don’t know if that helps.

I think that would definitely help encourage the people looking at your applications, considering that you put lots of work into improving your grades and challenging yourself. Colleges not only look at your grades, but how you have changed, improved, and challenged yourself.

We don’t know how to reply to all these posts of “I am a freshman and didn’t take honors can I get into an Ivy” or “I didn’t try very hard in middle school…c.an I get into an ivy?”

We have no earthly idea.
I would imagine that Ivy going students are taking harder classes, working hard, and are intellectually curious.
of course you can be a late bloomer…but who knows?

Do the best you can in your classes this years, try to move up to honors and then APs as a Junior.
Then find a college that fits you.

@bopper What do you mean? I’m taking the only 2 APs and 2 honors courses offered for me (straight As). I am taking an honors class and 4 APs next year. I am also a sophomore.

Any others have an opinion?

Hey Ab! I’m no professional or anything but judging by all the posts I’ve read on this forum and the general consensus I would say not to worry. Schools look at more than just your grades. It’s all going to be alright. Again, not a professional but all you can do right now is to make sure you’re not nervous and stay calm. Whatever happens will happen

Oh and like @Lindagaf said I would not worry about the “top schools”
Focus on finding something that fits you regardless of rank. Every school is good at what they do so all you have to take action on is finding the best fit.

What grade are you in by the way?

@missinghome21 I’m almost done with my sophomore year

@ab2002 Oh I see, Is Emory your dream school?

Anyways, focus on your senior year and don’t worry too much, as I said whatever happens, happens.
