This is the situation. I'm an extremely grateful college student who's parents are paying for education. Only thing they ask of me is that I get good grades, and that any spending money I want I earn on my own. Thing is, they want me to do this by working for my dad. If you are wondering, he is a wedding/event videographer/editor. So I would be editing weddings and events of the like. While my working for my dad would not pay the best I could make in a month, it does give me the flexibility of hours, and I can work from home. Not only that but they like to kinda guilt me by also saying that I would be reducing the workload for my dad. Thing is, I really don't like doing it. I could go out and get a regular 8 hour shift job that I might get paid more at (I was thinking bartender), and get paid more, but they probably would really not like that. Again, it's not that I don't want to work, it's just the kind of work I'd have to do really puts me off. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a good job to me! Anyway, it’s your life and your decision, so they should be understanding. It’s not like you’re going to be working for your dad after you graduate, so they better get used to it now. I guess you can tell them that you want to improve your resume and broaden your professional connections.

C’mon, if Dad’s paying for college, show some gratitude. Fork over the eight hours a week and be glad its only that. GL

Just suck it up and do it. If you want more money, get another PT job. Your parents are paying for your education- this is the least you could do for them.

Oh my god. Be grateful you’re going to college for free and don’t have to work a stressful job. I work at UPS and I have to pay for college on my own. Why do you need a job that pays more? How much money do you actually need? That work sounds like cake, I’ll trade ya.

This job would leave me with 75 dollars a month to spend on myself. Whatever else I earn is going toward the difference between whats being paid now for living in the dorm and what will be paid next year for me living in my own place off-campus, since that will be more expensive.

think of it as motivation to get good grades so you can get a job in what you want later on. (Worked for me)
