Son received letter of acceptance today to Honors program with $25,000 annual Presidential Scholarship. He applied 4 weeks ago.

^^^ The Presidential scholarship is now $25K??? Used to be 24K

Congratulations! If you don’t mind, can you share his stats?

Tuition at Tulane is over 40K and rises every year so they raised the Presidential to 25K.

Son’s stats were 2210 Total SAT (1490 M/V) and top 2% rank in a competitive High School in NJ (All honor classes throughout, 3 APs)

Congrats, mamajay! Actually, a few years ago, 2 yrs after Katrina IIRC, some of the scholarships dropped a bit (eg from $19K to $17K for the Distinguished scholar). Right after Katrina they were offering additional incentives in the form of discounts off housing costs (I think it was $3k) but that went away, and the scholarship amounts were tweaked a bit (I think the community service top amount also was adjusted downward a bit, perhaps so they could award more-- dunno, but I think the range is back up to 5-15K). Glad to hear they are adjusting the scholarship amounts (and I am glad my s’s tuition scholarship adjusts up with tuition increases!!). Do you know what the other merit scholarship award (Founders and Distinguished scholars) amounts are? Looks like the site says the lowest merit award is now $7,500. Wasn’t it closer to $11k in the past? Tulane Jeff, where are you??? Can you answer??

I just checked my status…ACCEPTED!!

Congratulations to the new accepted students! If any of you have questions about life at Tulane, shoot me a PM (or just ask and I’ll give you my Tulane e-mail address). That goes for parents on this board too!

If you don’t mind, can you share your stats gabby116?

Gabby - congrats!! I told you not to worry, lol. I sure hope you are applying for the DHS! DId they offer you the Presidential scholarship and the Honors Program with your acceptance?

my application completed today. praise yahweh.

and now, the wait.

congrats to everyone, by the way!

Thank you Fallenchemist. I didn’t get the official letter yet, it was posted online. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that my letter comes with a merit scholarship and honors offer. I will keep you posted. :)

if you sent 2 sets of scores, latest being highest, the site doesnt appear to show anything about act scores… (now updated as complete so know they have at least one set of scores) would it be worth calling to see if they have the most recent (higher) or would a 32 vs a 33 really make no difference merit wise etc.

Parent 56 - higher is always better. Send them in.

Gabby1116 - is Tulane your first choice? Or was it more of a backup? Just curious.

bff - Yes, Tulane is my first choice. I visted about 12-15 schools over the past year, and fell in love with Tulane. Although I applied to 6 other schools such as Duke, University of Richmond, Emory, etc., as long as I get a decent merit scholarship, I will definitely be matriculating at Tulane. Tulane has everything I am looking for in a school, great academics, small class size, strong commitment to community service, weather, and of course New Orleans.

It is always worth checking to make sure they have the best info. A 33 vs. a 32 might make a difference, unless they already offered the Presidential scholarship ($25,000) which is the highest they award based on being admitted. Bottom line, it doesn’t hurt to make sure.

Gabby - that is great. I would be surprised if you don’t get the $25,000 offer right away based on your record, and you should absolutely apply for the DHS Scholarship (full tuition guaranteed for 4 years) and/or the Community Service Scholarship.

I do see more and more students with your kind of credentials picking Tulane over schools that (right now) have more competitive admissions criteria. It is great to see. FWIIW, my D was a top student like you, got a DHS, and now is halfway through her first semester. She is absolutely loving it and is very pleased with the academic level and the whole atmosphere. She placed out of a lot of the intro classes and so was able to go right into some 200 and 300 level classes, which I am sure will be the case for you too. I think that is important for top students that you will be challenged right away. She is also very pleased with her Honors Colloquium class, although it is a LOT of reading. But it is small (8 or 9 I think) and very high level, discussion oriented. Hopefully that gives you some flavor of her experience so far, at least academically.

Fallenchemist - I have applied for the Community Service Scholarship and I am working on my DHS project, which hopefully will be finished shortly. I definitely plan on using my AP credits to skip many of the intro classes.

Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and experience of Tulane, you have been so helpful and encouraging. I’m glad to hear your daughter is loving her time there. I will be visiting again in November to show my dad and brother, who have never been to NOLA. I am so excited!

Well then - Congratulations Gabby on being accepted at your first choice school!
