havn't visited swat. would i like it?

hi. i'll be a senior this year and have been doing some college traveling this summer. however i didn't discover swat in time to put it in my schedule.

my favorite colleges so far have been bard, oberlin, and reed for the intellectual, creative, and artistic feel of them.

i visited amherst and was totally turned off by the "we are the best" mentality. the students seemed to focus more on the money they would eventually make as opposed to really just the learning.

so i stopped looking at those top ranking liberal arts schools even though i have a good chance of getting in.

but now i've heard swat is different- the rigorous level of amherst, william etc. but with more of the intellectual openess of bard, oberlin, reed.

is this true? would like to hear from current students or prospectives who have visited.

sorry again this post is so long, thanks for reading it if you got this far, and any advice is appreciated!

yes. You would probably like swat.

I think you'll like it.

I'd think you'd love it.

Yes. I think you'd probably find Swarthmore to be worth checking out.

Aside from its big city suburban location, the biggest difference between Swarthmore and Williams/Amherst is that Swarthmore has a bit of Reed/Oberlin in it -- very academically challenging, a strong thread of social responsibility, etc.

The things you cite about Amherst are probably among the reasons that most Swatties choose Swarthmore.

Thanks so much for your help everyone! I'll definitely be checking Swarthmore out further.
