Hays Scholarship

Does anyone know about how many applicants they get every year for the Hays Scholarship? Thanks.

A lot.
Perhaps a couple hundred. Not sure of the exact figure.
It’s worth trying for, definitely, but don’t get your hopes up on getting that full ride, and remember that the other merit aid available here is also quite good.

Thanks, AnagramPanda. The minimum criteria for the Hays Scholarship seemed kind of low for a full ride, which is why I asked. I’ve heard Hendrix is generous with merit aid, so we’ll see what happens, provided my senioritis-afflicted daughter can even get the application in by December 1.

BTW, I grew up in the north suburbs (Des Plaines and Arlington Heights) and my wife is from Palos Heights. What made you select Hendrix over any of the midwest LAC’s?

Honestly, it was largely the merit aid, which was substantially better than the other schools I applied to. The numerous resources in walking distance, the very friendly students and staff, and the nice weather also contributed to my decision. Part of it was that the admissions people made me feel like I was wanted here, which was a vibe I didn’t get from some other schools. PM me if you want more in-depth information.

Thanks, Panda – I’ll probably take you up on that. My daughter is (supposedly) currently filling out college applications. Once the acceptances are in, her questions will probably start to crystallize more clearly.

Alright.
By the way, I was discussing the Hayes Scholarship with my friends, and one mentioned that two years ago, 150 prospective students were on campus trying for it. I’d imagine that figure has increased a bit, and that’s only those who make it to the on-campus stage of the scholarship application and actually attend the weekend for it. So I’d guess the overall number of applicants this year would be in the low-to-mid-200s.

Hello everyone,
I am also competing for the Hays. To be honest, I am quite nervous, especially seeing as the odds are so discouraging.
