I am currently a high school senior. I am a white male and have a 3.6 UW GPA and a 1330 SAT (composite). I am also an IB Diploma Candidate. After looking at many different universities, I have noticed that Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) usually offer outstanding merit aid to “minorities”, those that are not black. I am very liberal and open-minded. I welcome new challenges and I’m a good “people person”. However, I am still a little weary over attending an HBCU.

So hopefully, those minorities who are currently at an HBCU can help guide me. Are you happy with your decision to attend an HBCU? Have you/did you like your experience at that university? Do you recommend that I go there?
Any insight would be great. I appreciate all contributions to this thread! Thank you :)

Lots of students do fine in schools where their ethnic group is a minority group after growing up in an area or going to a high school where their ethnic group is the majority group.

C17rox, you are correct. Particularly, public HBCUs in recent years have offered caucasian applicants $$$ incentives to enroll. Keep in mind, some HBCUs have traditionally had a significant proportion of white students; Tennessee State University (Oprah Winfrey’s alma mater) comes to mind. At the private Morehouse College (all male), two years ago the valedictorian was a white student, who spoke evocatively of his experiece at the college. You might want to investigate North Carolina A&T University, Tennessee State, Alabama A&M University or Cheney University in Pennsylvania.
