HCI major?

Is anyone doing a business + HCI double major? or an HCI double with any primary major? I want to know a little more about HCI.. I've looked at the website for the curriculum, etc info but want to hear from people who are actually in the program. How difficult is it? Is it a lot of programming (I looked at the curriculum but didn't seem as much as I thought there would be..) ?

With an HCI double major, do you overload almost every semester, possibly take summer courses? I am really considering applying for the program next year, so as I plan my fall 2011 schedule I'm trying to take courses that would satisfy both my primary major and HCI.. and I really want to be able to graduate within 4 years.

Difficulty depends on your previous CS/design knowledge. What experience and background do you have? I did web design and consulting in high school, so it’s been a cakewalk for me so far. Other people struggle to learn new concepts. It’s a mixed bag.

I haven’t had to overload for HCI. It’s a very light major - only 180 units or something ridiculously small like that.

If you definitely want to get in as a sophomore, you should make sure to try and take all of the prerequisites for the major. Those are communication design fundamentals, intro to programming, statistics (36201) and cognitive psychology. A GPA over 3.5 is almost a requirement to get in - grades are very important. You should also talk to Robert Kraut about what is expected in your essay - he can be found in the HCI department in Newell Simon at almost any time of the day.

DS did MechE and HCI and held a 10hr research/gofer and club work. He’s very organized. He had no problems other than the senior year was a bit hectic and time management was a must. He spent a lot of time in the labs watching other groups. He wanted the business aspects of HCI design and fundementals. He was the goto guy for the mechanical. Most of this product class were MBA and business students.

55-60 hours/term. 3 sashes.
