Does the headmaster get a say in admission decisions?

Im guessing some headmasters may read a file once in a while, but I wouldn’t really know.

They obviously have influence, whether they exert it is up to them.

Yeah they definitely have influence.

I don’t think a Headmaster would be a regular at admission meetings. If they know an applicant personally, they’ll put a good word in, but that’s true for teachers/coaches as well.

Yeah, I mean if you’re reasonably smart and your family goes skiing on a regular basis with the headmaster, you’re pretty much a sure in.

Actually I don’t think that’s true.

Well, I have a friend who’s parents are alumni and who dines with the Headmaster of a boarding school occasionally. I’ll try and get her results come March 9, and see if there’s any correlation! :D

But personally, I feel that the headmaster is detached from the admission committees, and will only be called up to review a file if there’s a tie in voting, a split in opinion, etc. Then, s/he can make the final decision.

I think for St. Andrews DE, the headmaster is more involved w/ admissions than those of other schools. I remember reading that the St.AD headmaster interviews a number of applicants – I may be wrong though.
