I know this has been discussed but please comment on your headshot experiences for your kid or yourself for the teens on this forum…resume on the back? Attached how? Didn’t some people print the whole thing together? I can’t remember. We are just taking the 8x10 & then trimming the 8x11 resume and slightly gluing them on the back… Sorta a pain. Is anyone leaving them separate? I read different recommendations… Also on resume should my D’s most recent roles be at the top? Or most impressive?
Most auditors prefer you staple, not glue. They will sometimes make separate stacks of photos and resumes so staples make it easier for them to detach. Make sure your name is on photo somewhere (front or back) in case it gets separated from the resume. You can purchase 8 x 10 paper from places like the actors lab dot com for under $10 a pack if you don’t like cutting. They can print photos with resume on back if you wish. They are fast and inexpensive.
We print on the back- but my D always takes extra copies of “just resume” in case there are people doing the two stack thing described by vvnstar.
I was told to not use staples so I have been using “glue dots” to attach my resume to my headshot. I will probably also bring some “just resume” copies like @toowonderful mentioned I think schools likely recieve a variation of glued and stapled resume/headshots so I’m really not sure if there is a correct answer on how to do it!
Gluing can look weird if it’s too wet or sticky. Also if you print double sided for resume and headshot then you run the risk of one side’s ink soaking through to the other. I believe stapling is best. It has all the togetherness of glue, or printing on the same page but without the commitment. Auditors or whomever can seperate them if they would like.
I’ve heard that photo paper should be used for printing the headshot while regular computer paper is find for the resume. I’m going to attempt to print everything with some extras at home.
I have seen it every way under the sun. I know a college auditor who says don’t use staples b/c they catch on things… The bottom line is do it neatly and carefully.
Btw- if you print double side you need to do it on special paper- then it doesn’t smear. We had the pictures printed on the special paper- then run resume through printer at home/dorm (since it changes with time) Never had an issue.
The roles do not need to be listed chronologically. Most impressive may be on top.
I prefer the resume stapled to the headshot, but since everyone has a different preference, I agree with @toowonderful “bottom line is do it neatly” unless a school indicates specifically in their audition instructions.
The biggest problem with getting the resume printed on the back of the headshot, although convenient and neat, is that these resumes are so tailored now to college auditions, with the focus on HS credits, etc. and will be obsolete by June, so that renders the photos unusable as well and $$ down the drain. Having just re-taken photos because my daughter looked far younger than she does now in ones taken a year ago we chose “older” looking shots from the selection, designed to take her through her freshman year of college, etc. so not planning on wasting any. Good advice @toowonderful, on carrying extra resume copies, separately.
One of the schools my d applied to had specific information they wanted on the resume so we had to do a special one for them – standard is 8x10 stapled to the back of the photo. Name on front photo as well. Only one school asked that the resume not be stapled.
As long as it is neat and clean, I don’t think there is a wrong way to do it.
I like Staples because I stick notes in between the sheets sometimes, and I know they won’t get lost. I also enjoy being able to separate them if need be.
My one big no-no is to have one of them NOT be 8x10 (when people print on 8.5x11). Although I doubt that would be a big issue with college auditions.
stapled…I think they all want it stapled…
We have used double sided tape for acting auditions, but I never really thought of staples. How are they stapled? For example just at the top two corners or all four, or ? I am so surprised to hear staples They really want them stapled??
Please someone resurrect the thread where this was discussed ad naseum…it was quite funny and really helped to break the tension of this process <3
@Dankadon - there is debate about the best stapling method: either do one staple centered at the top and bottom or all four corners.

Should dates of productions be listed under the theatre section of experience? Im thinking not and we’ve never listed dates beforehand . We just have name of show, role played and theatre name or school name of its high school show . I don’t have location of theatre on there either cause I have trouble fitting it in there. Is city location necessary?
@theaterwork - we got feedback from a college prof on Ds and they said no dates, just role, title of show and venue. - not the location just name
@jbrideau thanks! I thought I had it to somewhat of the standard but wanted to make sure before printing!
@rampions , that’s why you print them as needed. Whenever there’s an audition, run a few photos through the printer to add the resume. Only keep a few on hand so you can change the resume frequently and print new ones whenever needed.
I have a few tips from our experience this week. Costco photo worked out well for us. If you use the Collage maker, you can add a border on the bottom or top for your name. It is a bit pricier than the LA photo lab but for $1.79 a photo, we got our headshot prints in 2 hours. Also, if you modify the margins for the resume, you can set up the resume to only need 2 cuts vs. 4 if you print on 8 1/2 by 11 paper. (1/2 inch off the right side and an inch off the bottom). I went to the UPS store and they have a laser cutter and the resumes came out great. It was only 2 cents a page (1 cent per cut). It saved me a lot of time and frustration from trying to cut straight lines.
I had a ream of 8.5 x 11 paper cut down to 8x10 for a few bucks so resumes can be printed whenever needed. Someone on here suggested it last year or the year before and I thought it was the best suggestion ever.
