So I was looking on the website for info about the athletic facilities and what-not, and I saw this:

“Full-Time Undergraduate Students are assessed a Recreation Fee in their tuition to grant facility access. All students who were charged the Recreation Fee automatically have access to the Pottruck Health and Fitness Center and Hutchinson Gym by presenting their PennID to our front desk staff. For students enrolled in the English Language Program, please click here.”

Can someone explain what that means =] Does that mean we undergrads need to pay extra for it, or is it part of the tuition? The wording really stinks.

it definitely sounds like its part of our tuition...and thats logical...thats how its done pretty much at all schools i think..

so where are the gyms located on campus? if the dorm building i'm assigned doesn't have an excercise room, can i use one in another dorm building?

Membership at Pottuck is included in tuition. That gives you access to cardio machines, free weights, the pool, etc. Some classes, like spinning, pilates, golf, etc., cost an additional fee. I think it's $60 for a class pass for the year. If you're interested in those things, buy the pass at the beginning for the full year; you'll save a little bit of money that way. There are free 'Demo Days' at the beginning of each semester and during finals so you can try different classes.

Pottruck is directly behind the Wharton building on Walnut. Hutchinson, an older gym, is located down near 34th. Most buildings have exercise rooms, but they're not all that great--maybe a treadmill, bike, and stairclimber. They're locked pretty much at all times and you can't get in unless you have your room key, so it's not very feasible to use another house's room. Really, though, Pottuck is very centrally located.

wow cool. i've been going to the gym since the past three years, im glad there are good functional gyms at Penn :)) all the more reason i want to be at Penn soooon!

You will love Pottruck. The equipment they have is so nice and when you walk past the building, it'll just make you want to workout.

If i get accepted into Penn, you'll see me there EVERY day :]

Yes, the recreational fee is automatically billed to you and added to your tuition/room and board.

does penn have mandatory pe classes?
