so… im a bit confused about the whole process. please help if u know the answer!~

i’m canadian so my insurance doesn’t work in US, so does that mean I absolutely need to enroll in SHIP? (b/c it’s quite expensive)

If i have to enroll in SHIP, does the bill show up on my bursar bill (with tuition and everything else)? mine is not showing it. when do we need to pay it by?

thanks so much!!

If you don't get full coverage in Ithaca, (plus a list of other requirements), then yes, you must enroll in SHIP. The good thing about it though is that it's complete coverage everywhere, so you can drop yourself from your old insurance, and it shouldn't be too much more.

And I do believe it does end up on your bursar bill, but not till later. I already opted-in, and it hasn't shown up on my bursar either, so no worries. If you don't opt-in early, and wait for it to do it automatically, it probably won't be reflected onto your bursar for a long time.

thx for ur reply~

so that means we don't have to pay it for a while?

well I dunno if it's going to be posted before the Aug. 8th deadline (is that date right?) but, at the pace everything's going right now. I doubt it.

you could tell cornell you already have insurance and opt out of it, but then you'd be lying...and in case of an emergency you'd be ****ed...

You must show proof of insurance and show your coverages

you could opt for a cheaper plan with a non-cornell sponsored provider, but these plans are pretty much just for liabilities (aka death :( )

yeah, you definitely can't just say you have insurance and not have to prove it. I think it would be advisable to just get the insurance, where if anything happens, you won't have to worry. And on top of that, you'd be covered where ever you are in the world. The insurance premium won't show on the Aug 8th bill (currnet bill) but on the next bill and you can get financial assistance for it.

SHIP is pricey but worth it. I chose to stick with my coverage through my parents only to find out at a very bad time that I was not covered...even though the reps from the company told me I was.

The SHIP should show up a little later on your bursar bill if you just wait for it. I fortunately have health insurance that covers me anywhere in the US until im 23 as long as I"m a full-time student, but for you , I think you should opt-in to SHIP and get rid of your current insurance.

o.. ok
but it's not going to show up for the aug 8 one right.. because if does, i wouldn't have enough money to pay for it right now...

no..I don't think you'll see it until the September cycle.
