Ok so this is the first time I've ever made a post on the board and I wanted you to tell me my chances at Dartmouth my dream university. So to begin I'll tell you I haven't been doing so good in school right now its my second quarter my sophomore year. Ok so I want to give you some back story first off during my elementary school years I did great at the end of 6th grade i was the second best student because my best friend was the smartest and we had a sort of rivalry. But my story starts going downhill from here my mom made us move because she thought the high school I was going to go to was bad, but in actuallity it is much better education wise then the one I went to. So 7th grade in my new school was a breeze so I started slacking off I was surronded by idiots who offered no challegne to me so didnt try. But I still got ok grades my gpa was probably a 89. But besides me slacking off I'm an only child and I craved approval from others and ended up hanging out with a bad group of kids. So i got into fights got suspended alot and the kids I hung out with told me middle school didnt matter seeing how it doesn't show up when you apply to college. So I had the grades to get into the honors program but they wouldnt allow me to because of my behavior problem. So starting my freshman year I was in average classes and I still slacked off because I was surronded my idiots again. So my gpa for freshman year was an 87. So It wasn't that bad but not close to good. So this year the classes im taking and their grades are AP EURO-90 Geometry-94 Spanish 3-87 Health- 85 Biology- 90 and English 10- 89 so average again oh those were my 1st marking period grades. So now in the 2nd marking period tey are all 90s so thats good ok so here is my plane. Junior year I plan to take chemistry and physics so i can take ap bio senior year and comp and lit with is a college class and ap us history. So if my plan goes well i would take by Junior year I would take 2 ap and a college course. So then senoir year I'm going to take ap bio, ap englsih, government a non ap, and college stats and cat ( college algebra and trig). So at the end of high school i would have taken 4 aps and 3 college courses (correct me if I'm wrong). So those are the classes I'm going to take and there all the ap and college classes available besides ap calculus which I cant take. Now on to my extra curriculars. So Freshmen all I did was spring track this year I'm doing cross country, winter track spring track or baseball and some groups im in are sadd, starr, international club, vaasa, chess club and next year I'm running for student government president I also plan to volunnteer at a local animal shelter. So do you think doing all this and getting a 750 on each section of the sat will get me into darthmouth and if not can you please guide me please respond soon thanks.

Oh I know there some spelling and grammar errors I was typing fast.

wow! Can you try and organize your stats for us (look at similar chances threads in this forum - you list things together, like your standardized scores, grades, rank, AP stuff, demographics, etc.)

people don’t like to read huge blocks of text :)

Ok thanks for the reply tomorrow I’ll ask my guidance department for my grades because I can’t remember them right now and I’ll post them tomorrow.

Unless you can really bump up your grades, your at a loss. Even if you were get perfect SAT scores, that will not make up for a mediocre GPA. If you can figure out a way to get your GPA to around a 94+ you may have some chance. Your extracurriculars are good, but bland. If you can get leadership positions in them by senior year though, they will be just fine.

Work on your GPA first and I would suggest starting studying for the SAT by going over vocab. Maintain your extracurriculars and keep your disciplinary issues behind you and you may end up at Dartmouth.

Oh, I forgot to add that a GPA with a rising trend will look good to colleges as well (though not a good as a solid GPA). A bad freshmen year won’t be as bad as it seems if it is followed by a better somphmore year and an even greater junior year.

Thanks for the info I’ll have a lot more info about everything tomorrow if you could my stats should be up at around 6pm eastern time could you look at them then and I am set on changing my life around and getting into dartmouth.

tl;dr…

Yea I know there not that good but my overall gpa was an 88.5 I think oh and if you don’t know bca is a class where you learn about Microsoft and internet hs is a class where you learn how to type and learning lab is like a study hall and you just get a pass of fail.

Health: 84
Spanish 3:87

Also how do you self study an ap since my school doesn’t offer many and can it help your gpa? My guidance sucks they just ignore my questions and don’t care at all so I have no one to ask.
Anything else to strengthen my chance to get into Dartmouth? Thanks for the replies and plz answer quick.
