Hi! Let me get straight to the point: I’m a middle-class Asian female who comes from a small/mid sized public highschool (2,000 students) and am a rising senior. Pretty stressed about college right now, and I need some opinions/advice on things.
Freshman year:
H Geometry (A, B)
English 1 (A, A)
Biology (A, A)
Spanish 1 (A, A)
P.E. (A, A)
Art 1 (A, A)
Sophomore year:
AP World History (A, A)
H Algebra 2 (A, A)
H English 2 (A, A)
H Chemistry (B, B)
Spanish 2 (A, A)
Beginning Dance (A, A)
Junior year:
US History (A, A)
H Precalc (A, A)
AP Lang (A, A)
AP Enviro Science (A, A)
Spanish 3 (A, A)
Advanced Dance (A, A)
Senior year (confirmed classes):
AP Gov/Econ (my school combines these into 1 class)
AP Calc AB
AP Lit
AP Spanish
Lit Center tutor (kinda like a TA but fancier sounding)
UC GPA: 4.15 - 4.2? according to my counselor
SAT: 2210 one sitting, first try (M: 680, CR: 750, W: 800)
SAT II: Math II (690), Lit (730)
APs: World History (3), AP Lang (4)
ECs: pretty average
-Feed people who need assistance with mealtime at a nearby hospital as a junior volunteer (1.5 yrs)
-used to volunteer at a bowling place as a scorekeeper for disabled bowlers…quit because parents were concerned for my safety after police got involved in an alarming incident. (2.5 yrs)
-Treasurer of Environemental Club (1 yr), Secretary starting senior yr
- Activities director of Expression Club (1 yr), President starting senior yr
- Treasurer of Psychology Club (1 yr), Treasurer this yr as well
- Peer Listeners: school program in which I act as a … peer listener. Involves working with troubled students and counselors. (1.5 yrs)
- Link Leader: school spirit/leadership activity in which I help initiate incoming freshman (1.5 yrs)
- Gardening club: I plant stuff like potatoes, carrots, beans, cabbage, onions, garlic, etc. and harvest it. I’m just a normal member but it’s pretty fun. (1 yr)
note: I am worried about the lack of AP science/science rigor throughout my academic career. My school makes us try out for APs and I didn’t make the cut for AP Chem (didn’t try for Bio because the teacher can’t teach and I can’t learn well unless given good instruction. I regret my choice to not try out now.) It’s too late to fix the mistakes I made in the past, but I would like tips for the future. Should I add normal physics to my senior year schedule if allowed (counselor doesn’t want me to take physics because she thinks it will be too rigorous for me but I’ll see if I can wear her down).
My intended major is accounting or something with an accounting emphasis, like UCSB’s pre-econ. Other than that, I plan on applying undeclared to some schools because I don’t know with 100% certainty that I want to go into accounting.
Prospective list:
SDSU
Cal Poly SLO
UC Riverside
UC Santa Cruz
UC Irvine
UC Davis
UC Santa Barbara
UCLA (too competitive for me to thrive at imo, but my parents want me to apply)
Thanks for making it this far! I started realizing I needed to get my schtuff together a little too late, but I’m trying to remain optimistic and get back on the right track. Any feedback would be appreciated!
