Help about parent income!!!

hi, i am a senior in HS and i will be attending UC davis this fall. FOr 2005, I got 13,000 in grants total, pell, cal grant, and univ. grant. in 2005 my parents made 45,000, but for 2006 it will increase dramatically due to my dad's promotion, which will go to about 65,000. Theres 5 people in my family. My question is that should they work less so that for 2007 i could get a decent amount of grants for college? or will the increase by 20,000 affect my financial aid receivings dramatically. If so, by how much? what is considered low or middle income? When i start taking out loans, i am aware that subsidized loans for low income students do not include interests. So do you think an income of 65000 supporting 5 people will still qualify me for subsidized loans? thanks alot

I have another question regarding fin. aid. I checked my application status on March 15th for UC Davis and was notified that I got in. However, when i check the fin. aid status it says my FAFSA was not received. I called them, and they said it got lost in the system, so 2 weeks later my awards and other info was posted online. Everything else was the same as other UCs like pell and CAl grant, but i was expecting for the university grant to be high; i got 4,100 from them. I was wondering if that is the right amount i should get or maybe they gave me less than others because they considered my FAFSA to be late, which it is not b/c it is not my fault they didn't receive it, thanks.

More income is better than less. An increase of income from 45K to 65K will reduce your financial aid, but not by anything near 20K.

Go to FinAid and use the aid calculator to punch in your current numbers, and then change the parental income to 65K and see how it increases your EFC. My guess is your EFC will go up about 5 or 6 K.

Don't know about the Davis FAFSA thing. Make sure you had Davis on the list of colleges the SAR goes to. Then I'd call the FAO at Davis and see what's up.
