Hi, I plan on studying political science/government in politics. I was accepted into the honors program at UMD but not AU. I want to take advantage of being in or near DC but I want to have a good college experience as well. I’m really indecisive right now, so please help!

If you want to do gov stuff, AU is the place to be. You can also do collegiate entry into the honors program if you do well your first year at AU. It's not incredibly hard if you do some networking within the honors program administration.

UMD is a great school. I walked through campus for about half an hour when I visited DC (wasn't really on my list); I didn't like the size of it all. I've heard students there really feel like numbers, but it's much more known than AU. I also don't know about their government programs. However, I'm pretty sure the internships opps at AU will be better.

I guess it all comes down to $$ issues. I assume UMD is giving you a good chunk of money since you are in the honors program, whereas you probably got virtually nothing (at the very most quarter tuition) at AU. Can you tell us your financial standing regarding these schools?

I say AU. Why not be in the political capital of the US if you're planning to study poli sci?

UMD is literally a 10 minute drive from Washington, DC, if not less.

Well AU is clover. MWAHAH.

AU is a clover indeed... Muwhaa?

Are you on acid?

Perhaps.

Stuff like that happens when I try to be facetious.

:sigh:

Are you paying instate tuition for UMD?

I know at AU you can take classes at UMD, so I would assume you can take AU classes if you go to UMD, if that helps at all. At least that's what it says on the website.

What other colleges can you take courses at?

if you go to AU u can take classes at catholic U, Gallaudet U, George Mason U, George Washington U, Gtown U, Howard U, Marymount U, Mt. Vernon College, Southeaster U, Trinity College, U of DC, UMD, and Wesley theological seminary.

I'm really not sure how the system works about taking classes at other universities... but like i 'd assume that if you wanted to take a class, lets and African Language class, and AU doesn't offer it, but lets say GMU does, then you can take that class there. But like I don't think that you can go and take lets say Macro at GMU, when like AU already has a macro program.

That was my impression too. You can only take classes through the "consortium" if AU doesn't offer that class. Often this happens with less traditional foreign language classes. AU might not have the upper levels and you'd have to take them somewhere else.

yeah that sounds about right... ROTC is also done through Gtown
