Help! AP courses while in IB?

Hello everyone this is my first post and OMG just browsing through this site makes me think it's exceptionally helpful! thanks everyone.

Now time to ask my own question:

A lot of my friends in IB (International Baccalaureate) are taking AP (Advanced Placement) Tests and can manage to score really high. But are schools more impressed if they see one takes both IB and AP or do they think that IB is already enough and it doesn't really make a difference if you take AP or not?

i go to an IB school in WI, and honestly i don't think it matters too much. i took both the IB and AP Chem tests only because the IB one offered at my school was SL, which i wouldn't get credit for. (i got a 5 on both, haha, because i actually studied a little for the AP.) so you're pretty much fine as long as you take one test; the other one i'd say may only help you towards getting college credit. I wouldn't imagine that colleges would be any more impressed if i got good grades on AP tests if i'm already doing well on IBs. Also, be aware that some AP tests are siginficantly different from IBs...I had a friend last year who was in IB stats and got all A's, so he decided to take the AP test and got a 1. Hopefully that all makes sense.

IB is still gaining recognition, and many colleges prefer to give AP credit.

It's almost always easier to score well on AP exams. I took the corresponding AP exam for all of my IBs and took APES, Physics C, and Calc BC as electives. Perhaps it was a bit much, but hey, it got me enough credit to graduate a year early or with a master's. Then again, the school system paid for all of our exams.

It depends on the school. They may accept only AP, only IB, or both. It also varies whether you get credit for the class or just placement. Check out the policies of the schools you're interested in.

I don't know how much this will help: I'm an IB diploma candidate, but we're basically required to take AP (no IB Economics/Government, two requirements for a State of Texas (I think?) high school diploma) so I've taken both. What I CAN tell you- my HLs (two-year courses) are naturally in my strengths. The problem with this is that colleges wouldn't see my scores until after my senior year, long after the admissions process. So I ended up taking the two AP Englishes, doing pretty well [ugh, better than the people actually IN AP English :P] and having those scores on my resume to offset my weaker SL (one-year course) scores.
