My UCD TAG was approved and I am set on going there. I currently have a gpa of 3.58, but this semester I have been doing horribly. I am most likely going to fail my biology class (which is not a major class), but even if I fail it my gpa will remain above the required 2.90. According to my TAG agreement:

"You had a UC-transferable GPA of 3.58 when your UC Davis TAG was signed. You must maintain a GPA of 2.90 or higher for all UC-transferable units taken prior to transfer enrollment.

All courses in progress/planned, in addition to the required courses noted below, must be completed with grades of "C" or higher, unless otherwise specified, by the end of your spring 2011 term. "

It says that I have to have a "C" or higher in ALL courses that I am currently taking and am planning on taking in the spring. However, I looked around the forum and saw that in this thread somebody had said several times that it doesn't matter if you have an F in a class as long as the overall gpa is higher than the 2.90 requirement:

Can somebody please clear this up for me? I am really distressing over this because I am really counting on my TAG for UCD. Thanks in advance for all the replies!

If the bio isn’t one of the classes required for your TAG then all you need to do is to keep the minimum TAG gpa. But, it’s always good to not get an F anyways. And even if did lower your gpa to sub 2.90 you still have spring semester to raise it back.

The only classes required by TAG are the English and Math classes, right? I’m going to call a UCD Admissions person today, but I feel like they won’t give me a straight answer. How sure are you about only needing the minimum gpa?

It seems to say you need to get a C or better in all courses you are taking, not just courses in your major or UC transferable courses. It seems to me that if you get a D or F in the Biology course it will invalidate your TAG. There are a number of things you should consider. I know it is late in the semester but is there a chance with a maximum effort you could get that grade up to a C? That would be the best outcome. If that is not feasible, another possibility is that if you still can drop the course with a W. That could create some difficulties with UC Davis since you told them you were going to take this class. However, you should probably indicate that you plan on retaking it next semester so that UCD will have some assurance you intend to complete the courses you indicated you were going to take. Another thing to think about is why are you failing Biology? Have you just not taken it seriously and could have done well in it if you really tried. In that case taking the W now and getting a good grade in it next semester would probably be acceptable. On the other hand, if you just do not get Biology and there is no reason to believe you would do any better in it next semester than this semester, taking a W now and retaking it later is probably not going to help you. In that case take the W and see if you can take some other course you can pass in its place next semester.

My first option would be to take the W, but it’s too late in the semester to withdraw from a class without proof of extenuating circumstances and I have none. I just didn’t give it enough effort this semester because of a bunch of other factors in my personal life. I’m usually a good student, but this semester was like a ****storm for me.

I just called UCD Admissions and the person said that there is a possibility that my TAG will be revoked, but in January when I report my grades and changes in coursework I can explain why I failed the class in the additional comment box and the admissions people will try to work with me, especially since I did get a TAG before.

I don’t know though, I feel like I’m sort of screwed. I’m really counting on my TAG to Davis. Has anybody gone through this before? Any help would really be appreciated, because I’m about ready to pull my hair out.

Is it still mathematically possible for you to pass the course with a C if you were able to get an A on the final exam? If it is, then I think you have to spend all of your time between now and the final studying Biology even if it means you are going to get Bs in courses you would have gotten As in or even Cs in courses you would have gotten As or Bs in. With a current GPA of 3.58 a few Cs is unlikely to pull your GPA below a 2.9. This may sound like a drastic and risky strategy but I think you have to pass the Biology course. I really doubt they will let you keep your TAG if you fail a course this semester.

I am in the same situation. My gpa will be fine. But I don’t think I will pass my physio course. I was wondering what happened with u and uc Davis?? Did u end up able to go??? Thanks!
