During the summer between my sophomore and junior year, I moved across states. I plan to apply for Early Decision/Action this fall. Do you think it’s best to get one teacher recommendation from my current school and also another one from my previous school? Most people tell me that it’s best to ask junior, senior teachers so if I get one from my previous school, it would be from a sophomore teacher. Is that looked upon badly? But I AM doing Early Decision/Action, and my junior teachers don’t know me that well. If I do ask a teacher from my old school, how should I do it? E-mail, handwritten letter, phone?

Simply ask the teachers and/or counselors who know you best and who will write the best rec letters. If you explain about how you changed schools in an essay or elsewhere, adcoms will understand why your rec letters may come from two different schools.

Just e-mail or phone a teacher or counselor at your old school to see if they would be willing to write a rec letter for you.

Adcoms are not tyrants. They are human beings, just like you, who understand the human experience.
