HELP Babson or Northeastern!

I got accepted into both.
My major is business admin.

I love Northeastern Co op program and the city life,
but I also love Babson nice eniviroment and great reputation.
Both are good schools- what are your thoughts? pros cons?

I also got into both, congrats!

None of them are at the top of my list, but if I were to choose, I'd go to Babson. It's definitely better academically and it's more prestigeous. NEU's co-op is great, but even at Babson you can still do internships. The only advantage of NEU I see at this point is the city location, but that depends on what you like more.

hey hanita,
what other colleges have you applied to?

Babson, Its overall better in most categories, and congrats!

Got into both, getting better cash from Northeastern... I can link u to this guys blog, he scared me. He says babson sucks, so I'm having second thoughts, but I think I'm going to go anyway if I can afford it. Good luck with ur decision and I hope I see u there!

Ohh big con... Babson gives u a laptop. Sounds like a pro, no? WRONG.
a) Its a loaner that breaks every so often (u dont keep it)
b) Its a really bad computer
c) Babson can spy on you so no downloading music, movies and viewing things that are very ethically questionable...

Pro: Babson is supposed to be a great school, and a lot of work is in groups, and its a crazy workload.

Pro/Con- Food is okay... not good not bad

Con: Parties suck Pro: They have lotsa beer

Pro: Babson has awsome internships
Con: The staff is very "unhelpful" So I've heard (This is all secondhand info... I am a prefrosh...)

I also got accepted into babson. Dint apply to NorthEastern

The Babo Blog was written a couple of years ago. In response to it, Babson’s administration went through and completely gutted a lot of the offices on campus, beginning with our previous president. OCL is now a legitimate, value adding part of the community (I never thought I would say this) and a lot of the quality of life issues that have been holding Babson back in the rankings have either been dealt with or are being dealt with.

That being said, your ultimate choice should depend on what you want to do. Do you want a great social life right in one of the best cities in the country in exchange for an ok to pretty good education? Go with Northeastern. Do you want a great education with top notch faculty and can deal with having a good but not great social life? Go with Babson.

As far as internships go, Northeastern’s co-op program is good, but I have never had any problems finding an internship from Babson. Babson is really big on resume building - expect to be pressured into doing an internship or some other value adding activity every summer just by being here.

I would go with NEU. I’ve met more students from NEU on wallstreet than Babson. My firm a (BB) hired 14 (2) in my group so take it for what its worth.

I would choose Babson over NEU simply because Babson is stronger academically and has better reputation as compared to NEU!

Babson has a better reputation then NEU??? lol i dont go to either school but i can tell you that NEU is more reputable and has better academics. Babson might have a slight edge in finance. I also read somewhere that NEU has won the case competition 10/12 years which Babson participates in.

thanks! any more ideas?

I was in the same situation as you last year, and I chose Northeastern over Babson. Aid/Scholarship wasn’t a factor as both ended up being the same cost.

One of the big factors for me was the social life because I figured education would be the same. Looking at quick stats, Babson has about 1800 kids (MANY internationals) to NEU’s 15000 (growing number of internationals, but most domestic), not only that NEU is located amongst a number of schools. Fenway schools are a short walk, you can walk to BU, walk to MIT etc etc. and you definitely need a car to get around Wellesley, but good luck b/c everything closes at 9.

Internationally, Babson is still recognized very, very highly, but I feel like NEU is gaining speed. I’m a freshman here and there were at least 2 internationals in every class. Also, people may say you receive a better education at Babson, but for what it’s worth and what I’ve heard (through employers and interviews for summer internships), in the field of business it’s the experience that counts so why not Northeastern? Plus, NEU’s made tremendous strides in the last couple of years and why not be apart of something that’s growing year after year.

I’ll tell you what professors from both schools told me last year:
Babson: “Employers tell me they love Babson kids because they go straight to work”
NEU: “Employers tell me they love NEU kids because they already know the work”
(Obv. not word for word)

It’s a tough decision, but in the end you’ll know you made the right choice. I know I did.

Budfox - Babson has been ranked No. 1 for their entrepreneurship program for the past 10years. If that is what you want to do, then Babson is the place. Companies do come to Babson and recruit as well.
