Help! Biology SAT II!

I have taken about three practice tests on SparkNotes, and have taken two on the Peterson's website (these one's cost money). Here are my scores:

SparkNotes: 700, 730, 740
Peterson's: 700, 590

If you take a look at my scores, it's obvious there's an issue. The Peterson's one (with the score of 590) focuses A LOT more on specifics and stuff I barely remember, like gel electrophoresis (a lot of questions on that), historical experiments, and just very specific and nitpicky details that just seem like nobody could know that.

That score is really stressing me out! I'm taking it in two weeks, should I be worried? Which test is more like the real thing: the Peterson's or the SparkNotes? Help!

Oh, and I'm taking Molecular

My friends took it last year and they said it was very very easy. This was after we had just completed AP bio though. But I’m sure you’re over prepared with all those tests and will find the actual exam easier than your practice.

thanks! i haven’t taken AP bio though, and i was just wondering how realistic that practice test was…

The general consensus is that Sparknotes has overly difficult exams.

Yeah, Spark Notes exams seem pretty difficult. If you’re scoring 700+ on them I would say you are definitely on the right track.

yup, i scored an 800 on the barrons practice exam and hopefully it is more difficult than the actual test itself

all right, thanks! i also just took the practice test in my book, which is the Kaplan '05-'06, and scored a 780…i guess that 590 was just a weird occurrence

haha 800 on barrons sohaibshaikh??
you’re more than ready

as for sageeric1, I’ve never taken AP bio either and managed 720 (dunno if that’s what you’re aiming for) and I scored in the 600’s on sparknotes…the princeton review book should help a lot

Yeah, that’s pretty amazing sohaibshaikh. 800 on Barrons is quite impressive.

oh yeah, but this was after i read through the enitre book and took extensive notes which I studied. Now I would just like to know which has a better curve on the real sat ii, bio M or bio E

Bio M has a better curve, but if you are significantly better at Bio E then I would consider taking that section since it is often described as easier.

but its really wierd because in my barrons book it says that the minum to get an 800 on bio m is 76/80 and the minimum to get an 800 on bio e is 73/80, is there any way you can explain that and ya i took bio e and you dont even have to know ecology to do it because its just reading graphs and there is very little memorization to it

Question: Are you all taking E or M??

I get this feeling that E will be random general knowledge and M might be a safer pick b/c of the curve and you would generally know what to study.

I took both AP Biology and AP Environmental Science, so I really have no idea which one I’d be better at b/c I haven’t gotten my APES score back. But on bio I got a 5, (love bio lol) so I was thinking M.

So which are you guys going with???

I’m taking M, I haven’t taken AP bio though, so I can’t speak for that. I just know that in my class we’ve focused a lot more on Molecular stuff so that’s what I’m more comfortable with. I feel like Molecular is a lot more memorization, while E is more understanding specific situations and experiments. I think it just has to do with which you understand more and which you focused more on in school.

I expect M to be more like AP Bio and E to be like AP Environmental Science… not sure though.

I’ll most likely go with M just because E might have random questions that I’ve never heard about. Like, species and such.

There’s very little historical stuff from what I remember of the May exam, so don’t stress over that. Most practice tests from companies other than CB are overly difficult and graded harsher (to cover their own butts and produce a seemingly “magically good” result, I think.)

No one wants to get their hopes up though, so they assume they will die and then are pleasantly surprised with their scores.

E has a harder curve, but easier questions. This is true.
