Hello,
I have recently withdrawn from pharmacy school after two years. The work was not the problem but i had gotten a pharmacy tech job and hated it so I decided it was better to drop it now. I am looking to transfer next semester but have no idea what to major in. I am very intelligent and am especially good at chemistry and math. My biggest problem is that I am very shy and reserved and have a hard time adjusting to new things. I like working alone and being told what to do or following a routine. I cannot work under stress but am good at maintaining my grades while taking many difficult classes. My gpa is 3.95 after the two years. I need to find a job that does not deal with the public because that is what turned me away from pharmacy. I love reading and do not mind physical work. I have been thinking about chemical engineering or english or computer software developing. I just do not want to enter into a major to find out that it is not for me again. I'm not sure I would be interested in engineering even though everyone tells me it would fit me because I am not really interested in research. I do not know what to do. Please help I am getting myself stressed out over not knowing what to do. I am the type of person who likes to always have a clear plan or set of goals for myself so this situation is extremely stressful to me.

Have you asked the career center on campus for any assistance? It sounds like your interpersonal skills (“shy and reserved”) are driving your choice rather than your academic aptitude; but if you’re looking across a range as broad as chem engineering to english to computer science, you’re really lost. Have you thought about doing a personality profile? There are some good companies out there that will help you identify what you don’t want to do (that list may be longer than pharmacy) as well as things you do want to do - the results of the profile can then point you in the direction of alternate career choices and specific majors for those alternate choices.
Good Luck!
