help choosing a major

Hello, I am currently torn between which major I want to persue. I'm fairly confident I can get into state so that's not my concern. But I am not sure whether I want to go into the BME, CEE or business program. What is tearing me is the workload of the engineering program. I am not very strong in physics or chemsitry but I accel in all types of math.

BME: I think that designing medical devices would be awsome, but I am scared of the workload and I have heard that it is hard to find a job with a BME degree. Also, physics and chemistry are not my strong points but I think I could manage.

CEE: I've heard its one of the easier engineering majors

Business: I always invisioned my future as owning my own restaurant or storefront. I am strong in math.

In conclusion, I am torn between one of the two engineering majors or a business major. The workload of the engineering majors is what is scaring me. Which of the programs would you recommend? I value your opinion so please try not to give an open ended answer

Thankyou

I wouldn’t be too confident; a lot of “overly” qualified applicants this year are getting deferred/rejected from State because of the lateness of their apps. In other words, get it in ASAP! You’re already pretty late.

About your major issue, I think you need to go in undecided and just go heavy in the maths/sciences. After a semester (or even a year,) you’ll see the workload of the engineering kids, get a feel for what your preferences are, etc. You don’t have to decide now! :P

Although if it is an instant decision you’re seeking, just make a comprehensive pro/con list. Yeah, I know, sounds cliche, but they can really help you sort things out; not only in terms of which has more pros, but whether or not one tends to “call out” to you. I was having the hardest time deciding between going to U of M or MSU, but in the end, U of M ended up making more sense. Good luck!

Yeah I’d agree with crono. There’s really no benefit to declaring really early if you might end up switching later anyways. I’d keep away from CEE - if it being the easiest engineering major is the only draw for that program, don’t bother. Engineering is tough, no doubt…but you are a lot better off doing a program that interests you more. It sounds like Biomedical is the way to go…and I’ve heard that the job prospects for BME are actually increasing substantially over the next decade, since the baby-boomer population is aging and the demand for medical devices is likely to grow a lot. Business is a great avenue to go into though as well, so you can maybe get a dual major? Although that would be a lot extra work…you have loads of options, and it is pretty easy to switch majors at MSU if you need to
