So next year I can choose one of these options:

-
Take AP Art History Online (FLVS). My father said that he would take the Art History course at the local college (so essentially AP), and he has a PHD in engineering, so he could help me with the course. I have heard this course is harder than most, but I think I am up for the challenge.

-
Take AP HUG Online (FLVS) with Pre-IB HUG at School. We take Pre-IB Human Geography in school, but I am not sure how the curriculum compares with the AP curriculum. I have heard that AP HUG is very easy, so it would be an easy 5 with Pre-IB HUG + AP HUG + studying a couple weeks before the test. However, I have to spend 800 dollars for the class online, so is it worth taking an AP version of a class online (I have heard that colleges don’t necessarily recognize AP HUG…)?

Take Microeconomics and Macroeconomics Online. I am a solid math student, and I have an interest in economics, so this might be the best choice. For 800 dollars, I will also be able to get 2 AP exam scores. This might be the most practical option, but I am not sure how it compares to the other courses.

Regardless of the decision, I want to make a 5 in the course I pick, so keep that in mind.

If you could help me make my decision, with any input on any of the courses or any advice, that would be great!

Thanks!

There is no IB Human Geography course.

It’s not that bad. If you don’t mind typing a ton of essays.

I’d ditch HUG online, especially if it’s $800. Most colleges don’t accept HUG credit. Spend that $800 on something useful, like a dual-enrollment course.

Thanks for the response IceQube!

Although the class I am taking next year (Human Geography) is not “IB”, it is “Pre-IB”. At my high school, IB is 11th-12th grade, and in 9th and 10th grade, future IB students are Pre-IB students. We have Pre-IB English, and other Pre-IB courses (i.e. “Pre-IB Human Geography”). The class is taught at a higher level and prepares you for an IB history class the following year (11th grade). Think of it as a level higher than Honors but less than AP kind of class.

So what I thought was that I could just take my Pre-IB (above honors) Human Geography class at school and then study at home for the 2 months prior to the exam with a thorough review book. This would allow me to get a 5, with thorough studying, and save me 800 dollars to spend on another course.

However, I am now wondering whether to use the money for Microeconomics/Macroeconomics online or use it for Art History online? What would you guys suggest?

Econ on FLVS is beyond easy. Art … not so much. Art probably looks better on a transcript because it is a challenging course, and it is something that most people elect to take. How much better … I don’t know.

But then, I wouldn’t pay 800 dollars just take Econ online. Not worth it. Invest a fraction of that 800 in review books and you’ll ace the Econ APs.

So if you were in my situation, what would you do? (Not really sure based on your last comment haha…)

I’d take Art. It’s actually interesting and the AP isn’t overly difficult. Got a 5. The only book you’ll need for the AP is the REA Art History book, which slaughters the AP. Econ is something you should self-study.

Thanks for all the help IceQube, I think I’m going to take Art!
