Help choosing between CalPoly SLO or UCSD

Hello everyone, I have done plenty of research and have found lots of helpful information, but none of the situations match my situation so I would appreciate some insight from all you.

I applied for the major of Computer Engineering at both Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and UCSD. I got accepted into both. UCSD accepted me into the college (Muir) but not into my major so I would be undeclared. SLO accepted me both into the school and my major. I also got into the EOP program at SLO so that is a huge plus. I think I would like to live in both areas that is not an issue, but I would really appreciate some opinions. Thank you

Its almost impossible to transfer into engineering at UCSD if you did not get accepted directly. Only choose UCSD if you want to study something else other than engineering. Cal Poly SLO is comparable to UCSD for engineering but it isn’t selective like San Diego.

So, Bottomline SLO is cheaper and you got accepted to your intended major. Choose Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

An undergrad degree from SLO easily out weighs an undergrad from UCSD. The UC schools are research schools and focus on grad studies. Cal Poly SLO is one of the best undergrad degress on the west coast. Given the SLO total COA being ~$10K/year less than UCSD, its an easy decision. Congrats on having the great choice.

I know this is a silly question, but have you spoken to anyone at the school directly? Perhaps if you don’t want to shine a big light on it while you are trying to decide, you might be able to talk to a student ambassador or students who attend the school. Have you visited either school yet on a formal tour? You know that’s the best way to make contacts and get answers to your questions. I’ve been on a few tours recently, and found it very easy to get hypothetical questions answered without any obligations. I am sure asking a question directly will not impact your status. But keep in mind it’s how you phrase the question. Congratulations both very good choices.

Or here’s another way to approach this - it’s about what is a good fit for you. Have you asked yourself, I mean really detailed it out - which school will take you down the path that will get you to your end goal? How do you want to get down the path? For example, what is it you really really like about UCSD, why do you want to go there? Compare that to SLO - put it all down in writing that may help you gain insight on what to do.
