Help Choosing College, Please.

Hi, i'm an admitted student of UCSC. I am pretty sure i will attend UCSC, and i have already went to the Spring Spotlight. I visited College 9,10, Crown, and Cowell, and maybe Porters (i forgot). I read some posts here regarding choosing colleges, and I am most leaning towards Cowell because its variety of normal/cool people and its great scenery. However, I am still unsure how to choose the right college for me. Maybe someone can help me rank my top 5 choices?

I am Asian first of all, but after being with so many Asians through out my middle and high school life, i kinda got tired of being with so many Asians (in my middle and high school, it's like 70% Asians or something =.=) so i want to meet people with other races. I know college 9/10 has many Asians, so i'm not planing going there unless it's for the nice dorms.

I also have many interests. I like to listen to a large variety of musics. Basically any thing that sounds good, i like it. I listen to Classical, Hiphop, Rap, Rock, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French and other music and songs. I like art, and i also like to draw, mostly sketches. And i like to watch good animes, movies, TVs. So I like to be with artistic people who loves music and art.

I also like science. I love physics and astronomy and electronics. I'm planning to majoring in Astrophysics. so it might not be a good idea for me to hang out with people who share similar interests in science. but, i don't like people who is too nerdy, just a little bit of nerdy is okay.

I also like philosophy and psychology. I like to ponder on philosophical questions. I also want to understand how our mind and brain works, because our mind is a big mystery. So like to hang out with philosophical people.

I'm also athletic. I like to ride bikes, play basketball, tennis.... I also want to learn how to surfing when i get to UCSC. so meeting athletic people isn't a bad idea.

I think that's pretty much all of my interests. there are other factors i like to be included in choosing college:

I don't smoke/drink or using drugs. But after reading many posts here, i know i will see people use it on campus. that's not a big problem for me because i know i won't be influenced by drugs or smokes, (alcohols i might be influenced). But i don't like college that's filled with many extreme drug/smoke users. So a college with a little bit of drugs/smoke is okay for me.

I also like to party and meet good looking girls. But i don't want a college that's partying all the time, just sometimes partying on weekends or holidays is good, so i spend the rest of time study. So i'm looking for a college that has casual partying and good looking girls!(after being single for all my life, i want to have a girlfriend =])

I'm also planning to transfering to a better school after two years, so i want to study with people who can motivate me.

oh ya, i almost for got, can someone tell me how Co-ed Floor/Apartment is like? is it everyone has seperate rooms and restrooms, but share a single living room? Does people from opposite sex live in the same dorm?

How about Gender-neutral dorms, what is that?

I think this is all i'm looking for in choosing a college. I'm terribly sorry for this lengthy post.
Thank YOU for your patience!
Please, help me rank my top 5 choices.

Thank YOU again!

from what i here cowell sounds right for you. but i will be a freshman too so i dont know first hand either.

hey apacherose99, so ur a freshmen too? so which college r u choosing?

Oakes sounds like a pretty good college for you, I mean it is the most diverse out of all the colleges at the University. After that then 8 maybe, but I'm only really sure about the Oakes. Good luck with your decision man

so should i choose co-ed or gender-neutral? what's their differences?

co-ed is basically you live with the same sex in your actual room, but the floor has the opposite sex. the bathrooms are co-ed meaning there's only one bathroom. of course the showers and stuff are private. no idea what gender neutral is.

was thinking of cowell too, is there a lot of partying??

how does one pronounce it.. is it CO-WELL?

I think its COW (as in the animal)-ell

ya, i heard a student from UCSC pronounce it Cow, just like pollyinthesky said

badhairdude, i did some research on gender neutral. it's basically the new style of dorms that lets opposite sex people live in the same dorm. basically, a guy can live with a girl in the same room, or something like that. sounds great for me, living with a girl is so cool =]

does co-ed floors have single-person rooms, or is it several people live in the same room? i don't like to live with someone in the same room, unless it's a pretty girl =]

although at first thought it would be cool to live with a girl.. i think that would be bad in the long run. chances that she's going to be hot? and get a long with you..ehh..

also you have to polite 24/7 if you roll like that or else she'll complain/talk to friends. she might be the really clean type..and you can't really talk about girls to a girl, that's weird.

about the single person room, i think they have an option for that but it will cost more. co-ed floors just have both sexes in the same floor. and you live with the same sex in the same room. unless its that gender neutral thing i've never heard of.

People really trip me out when they ask questions about if there are hot girls or hot guys at the college..... No offense or anything even if you were to room with or go to a college with "Hot girls or Hot Guys," if YOU dont have looks then your chances of getting with those people... especially a a girl... is slim to none...

ya, i guess ur right badhairdude. i might not last long if i live with a girl =]

for now, i listed my top 5 choices as:
Cowell
Crown
Oakes
C10
C9

what do you guys think? is it good according to my self-description?

i'm hot, i'm sexy.... theone&onlyx , that's why i asked...

lol

so what do you think of my choices?

should i put Oakes second and Crown third?
how's Oakes like? i know it has good environment, but what kind of people live there? i heard that gangsters live there.

^^Can I ask what attracted you to the various colleges in your top 5? They seem quite different.

I really do not think Oakes is too "gangster." I bet there are some of that type at Oakes, probably a little more than the rest of the colleges, but it should not be too bad. The people that live there? Well, probably those who like the idea of being in a more diverse community. This is the college with 25% whites, 10% african americans, 25% asians, and the rest are of other races. This differs greatly from most of the other colleges, which are 50%+ white.

thanks for the info Cali Trumpet. yes, my choices of college seem very different. i put Cowell on top because it has nice scenery and normal people there. So i can study with normal people in a nice environment. I might put Oakes second because it has people with different background and culture live there, so it might be a fun community. besides i heard Oakes has great view. I might put crown third because it's a nice community with majority of people majoring in science. The environment is good, but i don't like to be surrounded with people studying science, in a way, it's not as exciting.

as for the rest, C10 and C9, it's just for the dorms. =]

so which college do you go to, trumpet?

Oh, I am a incoming freshman like yourself.

Oakes does have a pretty nice view.

I guess my order is 9, 10, Crown, 8, ___

9+10 because dorms are close to Social Science department + better dining hall options, Crown for the community feel and quiet environment, 8 because its probably the prettiest college imo.

I agree the only downfall to me for crown is that is perhaps is TOO science related.

If I were too pick a college based solely on good views, Oakes Stephenson and Cowell would be my top 3. However, you might get unlucky and get a room facing inside the college so you will not get that gorgeous view from your room.
