Help choosing senior class schedule

I am an IB student. Enrollment for my senior year is next week. I can take 5 classes and fulfill my IB diploma requirements and graduate. What should I do, in terms of my college application resume, with my two open periods? Would it be better to add two more honors classes to have a full schedule or take one or two fewer classes and do volunteer work in my field of interest with the extra time? All my teachers advise a full schedule but my Dad thinks one fewer period and meaningful use of the extra time would be more interesting to the admissions committee.

This post is my first. Thanks for the help.

My first post and no replies. Some one give me a break.

Take the honors classes. Colleges want to see that you took the most rigorous courseload available. They also want to see that you can manage your time well enough that you can do well in a full courseload and do extracurriculars. :)

your 5 classes must be solid IB classes...preferably 4 hl if not then 3......since IB will take ALL YOUR TIME, taking two honor classes will burdend you...TRUST ME...i am a senior with the IB Program.....NO TIME TO BREATHE.......take a class off, because you need the break, or you will be so exhausted and overwhelmed by school, you will have no time for what you like...remember you must put at least an average of 8 to 10 hours of work per week to succeed in senior year IB class...and then your honors class will hurt you, and even MOST LIKELY bring your grades down....and first half year you will have college apps....and THEY TAKE TIME....especially your essays

Nonsense. My senior year I took AP Calculus BC, AP Physics C, IB Biology HL, IB Chemistry HL, IB English HL, IB History HL, IB German, and TOK. It wasn't that hard; I came out with a perfect GPA and near perfect rank as well as being admitted nearly everywhere I applied. You just need to have good time management skills- something many IB'ers sorely lack.

idk....im in all year around sports.....i put 14 hrs alone for track...........and another 7 hr for ecs..........so it gets really tough...and i also have a tough IB program....and still doing really well...and i have two months till IB exams...so right now even our valedectorian and the whole IB class is slacking badly......and not everyone can have a good time management skill....we just cant wait till after the exams, we can sign ourself out and do the senior project... :- D

Take up one more class and have an off period. Enjoy your senior year as much as you can.

Thanks for the replies. Aren't there going to be large numbers of applicants who have a full course load and some impressive ECs? Would something interesting outside of school be more distinguishing to the Admissions Committee?
