Help comparing undergrad business schools? (UMich Ross, NYU Stern, ND Mendoza, UNC-CH Kenan-Flagler)

Hi guys,

I’ve narrowed down my college choices to my favorite undergrad business programs, and they all seem so similar in academic quality that I need some help comparing them. We can set aside factors like fit, weather, price, party scene, etc.

How would you guys order UMich Ross, NYU Stern, Notre Dame Mendoza, UNC-CH Kenan-Flager, and USC Marshall in terms of overall business program?

Would the order change if my career-goals are to pursue entrepreneurship/startups?

Thanks for the input!

Pursue them how?

Ross and Stern are better than the rest. If really into finance you really can’t beat the prestige and location of Stern.

Participate in venture competitions, continue developing my businesses & apps, etc. Or pursue as in select my concentration/major to be Entrepreneurship or Marketing

Thanks @qwertyzxc. If I wasn’t into finance, what aspects would Ross stand out from Stern?

edit: double post accident

Are you looking at the the Undergrad BSchool Rankings?

The MBA rankings are different (Stern is #20 in the MBA rankings because they got their data to US News late. Usually they are #9 or #10 in MBA rankings and that will most likely be corrected next year)

For UG finance Stern is #2 in the country and the location is added benefit for whatever field you are interested. The ability to do relevant internships in your field plays a big role when you are pitching yourself in interviews come when you need to look for a full time job.

Ross is generally very good at management / strategy so if you were really into consulting Ross could be slightly more attractive. Ross could be more attractive if you wanted to find a job in the Midwest. Stern places well into NYC, San Francisco, and Europe / Asia but not many people end up in the Midwest from Stern (i’m sure it’s due to interest rather than opportunity).

Not sure how something as simple as USNWR rankings can be misinterpreted . . .

Overall Business (undergraduate)

  1. Ross
  2. Stern
  3. Kenan-Flagler
  4. Mendoza
  5. Marshall

Entrepreneurship

  1. Marshall

Zuh? While NYU is definitely expensive, its tuition is nowhere near $100k. Looks like tuition alone is about [$25k per semester](http://www.nyu.edu/life/resources-and-services/nyu-studentlink/bills-payments-and-refunds/tuition-and-fee-rates/leonard-n--stern-school-of-business.html) and while there are certainly additional fees, the total will be more like $60k/year than $100k.

Ross places well in NYC too, if that is where you decide to eventually work. Michigan also give you the full collegiate experience.

Notre Dame has the best overall reputation followed by Michigan.

Notre Dame is #1 in the most accurate of the undergraduate rankings, Bloomberg.

Mendoza is also capped now at 550 students per graduating class, which is fantastic.

@todd87 Sorry but the Bloomberg survey uses industry opinion and for 5 years straight ND was #1.

And next to Wharton ND is the hardest one to get accepted.

I’m sure all of those students attending Wharton regret turning down ND.

For the 2015-2016 year, Stern’s undergrad tuition plus registration and service fees was $48,242. Tuition for Stern’s grad program is also much less than $100k per year.

I would suggest ignoring everything you are told by someone who incorrectly claims at least 4 times that tuition at NYU is $100,000 per year.

Thanks for all the help. NYU is estimated to be around $68k year for tuition + R&B, and after a scholarship it would be $43k/year for me. UMich would be a similar cost ($44k/year for tuition + R&B).

So assuming the price is the same, it seems like Ross would be the better option still (according to some of you)?
