help! confused about how the school got my scores

I only sent in my ACT scores but when I check my status it shows all of the ACT's, SAT's, and subject tests that I took. My school didn't send them so how does Florida have them?

This happened to many of this year's applicants. Here is the thread where we discussed it:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=366557&page=3

Yes, it dosen't seem fair/right.

this happened to many applicants this year. we are oos, and only sent sat. but ufl recieved act scores as well.

first of all, you should know that when you send your sat scores, the college board sends everything including all sat scores, all sat II scores and I think AP scores if any.

you can't control what they send, they send it all. As far as the act is concerned, ACT markets one of the advantages of taking the ACT is that you only have to send in your best score, not all scores. They like to use this as a selling tool of why they believe the act has an advantage over the sat.

UF apparantly has a way of obtaining all scores for all board tests. I called to find out about this and was told that it doesn't matter because they only look at your best board score. this still doesn't explain how they get the act scores. ACT has no explanation for this.

wish I knew.

I talked to UF today and they said they got all of their scores from a state data base. They said that a computer program picks out the best score, either an SAT or an ACT and that is what the app readers see.
I guess I'm not as concerned as I was this morning when I thought they would be staring at everything, including the not so great scores.
What makes me mad is that I spend money to send scores that they were going to get anyhow. A bit of a scam.

This also means that what the ACT states as a plus for taking their test (being able to select only the best score to send) is actually not true at all. At least not for instate scools.

Thanks for the link Seiclan. I guess this has been happening, but I didn't know about it. I really hope that they just look at the best score and don't even see the others!!!!!

Is anyone using FACTS.org to fill-out their FL state schools college applications?

Stupid lack of communication. The admissions office needs to stop being so mysterious...

we are oos, and uf was able somehow to obtain all of my son's sat's and act scores.

Question I'm asking for a friend... (my kids are already at UF)

With this new application deadline, how are the SAT scores from the October test going to be handled? I have a friend whose son took his first SAT back in the fall of his junior year, and won't be taking it again until October. Obviously he's hoping to improve his score. However, he already sent in his application. Are they looking at his fall of junior year score as we speak, and making a decision based on it?

I heard that a college admissions rep told a guidance counselor who asked that kids give Florida public colleges the right to access their scores when they sign the app. Since UF's application is online you can't see what it says ahead of time (convenient, huh?), but look at what FSU's applicants have to sign (from the 2008 FSU downloadable app):

I further agree to the release of any transcript, student record, and test scores to this institution (including any ACT, SAT, and SAT-II score reports that this institution may request from ACT or College Board)."

FIU has identical language. USF and UCF use more vague language.

Someone who is applying to UF please copy and post their waiver language here.
