Hello! I am considering transferring into one of the top schools in the country and am wondering what my chances are? I had a 3.5 GPA in high school and a 24 on the ACT. I had over 70 hours of community service and was in 6 organizations. In college, I have accumulated a 3.89 GPA and as a Sophomore, am President of the largest science organization at my university. I have strong letters of recommendation as well. I am trying to get into Wake Forest, Cornell, Notre Dame, UVA, and U of Miami. What are my chances?

Thanks!!!

104 views and no suggestions?? Come on people haha!

whats the rank of your current college

It is in the Princeton Review top 371 and a Tier 1 School.

a great amount of transfer as a sophomore standing depends on your hs records. since ur hs records are little below average or just average, i would recommend transfer as a junior. As of now, in my opinion, reach: ND cornell virginia, match: wakeforest, u of miami

If you follow ND’s Transfer Requirements (as listed very specifically on their website), and keep doing very well (>3.6), you should have decent chance there. Also Wake Forest seems do-able – not sure about the others you listed.

Best of luck!

Thanks for your help. I also have a letter of recommendation from a United States Congressman. Will this be beneficial or will it be treated like any other recommendation letter?

It depends how you received the letter of recommendation.

Well, he has been a close family friend for many years. He knows of my work ethic and has assured me that he will mention that in his letter.

Nice. The reason I was asking is, because many peoplle can write a letter for you, but unless you truly know that person. Often admissions officers can tell.

Awesome. I have actually changed my schools around a bit. I have officially applied to Syracuse, Cornell, Wake Forest, Northwestern, and Villanova. What do you think my odds are? I am hesitant in regards to Northwestern and Cornell. Also, I have heard that Villanova’s financial aid is terrible!

Unfortunately, I don’t know these schools, only Cornell. However, your ACT is deficient, but your GPA is acceptable. I hope that makes up for it. For Transfers, especially as a sophomore, I don’t think they will care much about your high school grades. I think we will have to wait and see. Also, for some schools you may get accepted based on more than one criteria. So, maybe, something you didn’t disclose to us is the key to your acceptance. Good luck! Stay posted on our Cornell thread!
