Hello, I am a DACA 12th grade student in Georgia who has not been accepted to any colleges. My only plan right now is to move across the country to California to attend community college for two years before hopefully transferring to a University of California as I have read that California does not have restrictive laws on education for DACA students as my hometown, Georgia, does. However, I don’t know where to start to confirm if this is true or if I may be putting everything on the line for nothing. Could I please have your thoughts on who to contact to confirm this and some general insight/advice?
It’s not easy to achieve resident status for in-state tuition for California. You would not be able to just move here and attend community college at the in-state rate. I believe you would have to live here for two years without attending a college (and be working, getting a CA driver’s license, etc.) in order to achieve resident status for in-state tuition. Please research this before making a decision. Below is the link for UC Berkeley:

Yes, I am planning to pay out-of-state tuition for my attendance at the community college, and I’m thinking this will also go for my tuition for a UC if I do end up transferring. I’m just unsure of my chances (if there is one) of being able to transfer to a UC due to my status as a DACA student and since I don’t qualify for the California Dream Act as I did not attend high school at all in California.
