Help deciding a major...

I'm applying to schools this fall and though I know it's perfectly fine to enter college undecided, I really want to choose a major to begin with on my applications. I also know that I may switch several times and that's fine.

So far, I was pretty set on English, with a possible concentration in Creative Writing
Before that.. I was thinking about Journalism

Other interests include:
-Psychology
-Graphic Design
-Film..?
-Photojournalism

And I'm also considering Med School.. but perhaps only because my parents are praying I go into that field. Though, I definitely do not want to major in Biology, Chemistry, or anything of the sort.

Also, my second question, I am able to apply to one college as "Undecided" but another college with a decided major. It may be a stupid question but I'm really not sure how that works...or if it would even matter.

Since it appears you don’t like science, maybe you shouldn’t apply to Medical school.

Yes… well, it’s merely a very very small consideration based on the pressures of my parents.

Seriously, these topics are just ridiculous. To come into a forum where you have no personal relationships and nobody knows anything about you and ask people to help you decide what you are going to devote 4 years of your life to is just not smart. Be an adult and decide what you want to do and stop seeking out the advice of strangers on such a personal decision.

“Be an adult and decide what you want to do and stop seeking out the advice of strangers on such a personal decision.”

Ditto.

I would not even consider med-school if I did not truly want to be a doctor.

Let me be more clear…
I’m not asking anyone to choose for me or to let me know what I’m best suited for because yes, obviously no one here knows anything about me…
I am very capable of deciding on my own.
I was only hoping for some input from those who are currently majoring in the areas I mentioned and what they enjoy about them so that I could get a little more insight.

But thank you both for your input, I suppose…

Your freshman year will really be general courses anyway, so take your time and decide next year.

Major in chemistry.

Communications would be a good major for you. Depending on the school you could do concentrations and even minors in journalism and everything along the lines of that. Some schools have photojournalism classes you can take as a part of that. You could add a creative writing or film minor, or even double major. Take psychology as part of your general education and see if you would like to pursue that as well. If the Communication major doesn’t offer those photography courses you like an Art program might, and you could minor or double major in it

Don’t listen to your parents if you don’t want to be a doctor. That would be wasting so much money- and not to mention the time and energy you yourself would be putting into it!

I would take a look at the communication/journalism/broadcasting/film degrees at the schools you are interested in, and see what they have to offer. See if they offer any photojournalism concentrations or classes as well, and you might be able to take some graphic design classes as part of that.

If you like photojournalism/photography or graphic design enough, look into those programs as well.

You might like a broadcasting major (would could be considered as part of the communications program, depending on the school) because there are a lot of writing classes, plus you might be able to study photography and photojournalism as well.
