Help! (Distance) foreign language offerings at California community colleges?

I apologize if this isn't the best forum to ask for information in (maybe I should have gone to the community college sub-forum?). I'm a linguistics student still working towards transferring to a UC, in the next couple of years, and I have already exhausted the foreign language course options at my school. I'd like to begin another language or two, and depending what is available, I'll either commute or go online.

I'm looking for a comprehensive list of languages offered at community colleges anywhere in California and specifically online courses offered outside of the SF bay area. Such a list doesn't seem to exist, and aside from going through and finding information on every single cc website, which I have been doing for a few irritating days already, I thought maybe you guys could help me.

What languages are offered at your California community college? Are any of the languages available in online format (not hybrid)?

Many thanks!

Oh, and to clarify, I have taken the sequences for French, German, Spanish, Italian, and ASL at Santa Rosa Junior College.

@lithobolia‌ The cc I attend in San Diego offers Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Russian in addition to the languages you have already taken. I doubt you will be able to find a ccc that offers online foreign language classes. In class interaction is pretty vital to learning a foreign language. Look into Rossetta Stone (pay to use) or Duolingo (free app). Or you can start taking extension classes at a university.

Thanks for your help! I will hopefully be transferring to UCSD so that’s especially good to know. I’d love to learn Arabic.

I’m not sure why I didn’t mention this initially, but I have already found a couple of schools that at least sometimes offer online language courses - Allan Hancock offers Italian and Spanish (so unfortunately not for me), Butte offers Latin, and LA City offers Arabic, Chinese, Italian, Japanese. Korean, Russian, and Spanish. I’m still looking, so maybe someone will know more. I agree that online format doesn’t seem like the best option for full fluency, but the combination of GPA boosting and priming me for learning more of the language later doesn’t seem like a terrible deal :)

If you’re looking strictly for online foreign language classes, you might want to try Coastline Community College in southern California. They offer Chinese, French, Spanish, Vietnamese all online! You don’t even have to live nearby. A lot of schools tend not to offer foreign language classes online because it can be hard for people to keep up/retain knowledge, but I really enjoyed my time with CCC. I learned Chinese on there and it was very interactive and educational for me. The teacher made us send in weekly recordings of us speaking. I went in knowing nothing and now I can read/write/speak Chinese.

Awesome, that’s exactly the kind of thing I’m looking for! Thank you.
