Help finding a college right for a slacker

You could try the UW system… might have a shot, with that SAT, of getting into:

UW-Milwaukee
UW-Eau Claire
UW-Whitewater
UW-La Crosse
UW-Oshkosh

You’re likely not getting into UW-Madison or Marquette, which offer the #1 and #2 BBA degrees in the state. But you can get a pretty decent education elsewhere in the UW system. Those are some options for you to consider, anyway.

To continue on prezbucky’s thought: If you decide on computer science, UW-Platteville should definitely be looked into. Great program and you will get in. Beautiful campus too.

The only thing I’m concerned about with going to school in Wisconsin is the temperature as I don’t deal well with cold temperatures.

Any other school suggestions? These have been really helpful.

So far on my list are UMass Amherst and UW-Platteville and I’m planning on looking into more of the schools prezbucky listed along with Umass Lowell.

Are there any non-CC SUNY/CUNY schools I should look into as well? e.g. Plattsburgh, Geneseo, Buffalo for SUNY’s

2 schools and pretty good ones actually…

Kansas and Nebraska…you meet their SAT minimum and as long as you have completed their HS core requirements, you are in. Might not be able to get into business college but you can apply fr that after being there.

I went on Princeton Review to look up University of Kansas and Nebraska.

Is the GPA weighted or unweighted? I saw another college with a “4.2 average GPA” so I’m guessing it’s weighted?

If that’s the case, then I have a lot more options than I once thought.

Arizona State

https://students.asu.edu/admission/competencies

Arizona State has a good B school

“The only thing I’m concerned about with going to school in Wisconsin is the temperature as I don’t deal well with cold temperatures.”

This is funny. You are considering schools in upstate New York and western Mass but Wisconsin is too cold? You should try it sometime–the winters here are generally sunnier than those in the northeast, and we get better snow. No nor’easters or ice storms, either!

UW-Whitewater also has a fantastic BBA program.

I’m not sure if your GPA question was for me or not but…the average GPA for incoming freshman at KU is irrelevant to you (same for Neb), all you have to have for admission to KU College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is…

To qualify for admission, out-of-state freshmen graduating from an accredited high school must submit a completed application with the $30 fee and meet one of the following requirements:

24+ ACT (1090+ SAT) or
Rank in top one-third of your class or
2.5+ GPA in Kansas Qualified Admissions curriculum

That is it. Meet one of tose 3 things and you are automatically in as long as you have completed their HS core.

Go to the KU and UN-L admissions websites and look.

I don’t think my 2.5 GPA is in the top 1/3 of my class.

EDIT: My GPA is exactly 73.5185, which is apparently a 2.3 GPA

You only have to meet 1 criteria

Oh whoops

I skipped over that bit by accident.

Why is it so easy though? There has to be some kind of catch.

I don’t feel comfortable disclosing the amount of money I make here but I sold electronics and health products if you want to make an estimate from that. My professional connections are pretty much limited to I buy their wholesale products and they ship it. It’s not really personal in the slightest. In other words, I wouldn’t be able to get college recommendation letters from them if that’s what you’re thinking.

You don’t need to tell us your income.

What we need to know is how much can you PAY for college? There’s no point in recommending School A or School B if you can’t afford the costs.

If you were to apply to Alabama now they probabaly would accept you. Bama has an excellent B-school (Culverhouse School of Commerce and Business). Bama is more lenient with those who apply early during Rolling Admissions. If you applied now (Apps are live now), you’d probably get accepted within a month or so.

[Culverhouse - Home Page](<a href=“Home - The Culverhouse College of Business”>http://www.cba.ua.edu/)

The campus is gorgeous, the academics are strong, and the people are friendly.

They are big state universities in small population states; as such, they will take students from the whole range of students considered acceptable for entering four year schools as freshmen. If you stop slacking in school, such a state university may be a good choice in that you do have the opportunity to take a rigorous course load and be among the top students there. However, such a school can easily allow continued slacking.

States with large populations and many state universities are more likely to have state universities with different levels of selectivity, resulting student bodies which are more “narrow” in previous academic stats.

I’ll definitely talk over Alabama with my parents when I wake up in the morning. It sounds very promising. Just to be sure, I’m not locked into it if I’m accepted, right? What if I applied after I got my second set of SAT scores back? Will I still have a good chance assuming I get the ~2300 I’m aiming for?

As long as you don’t apply ED you will not be locked into any schools that accept you

And regarding the SAT scores?

Should I apply now or after my next SAT?

If I get denied the first time, should I try reapply? I’m guessing that’s a big no-no though

you’re not locked into anything.

You can apply now, the school won’t reject you right now even if your stats aren’t good enough. Bama will wait until you submit later scores, IF those are needed. Schools with Rolling Admissions will wait til the last acceptable scores are submitted before they reject. If necessary, they may ask for a mid-year grade report.

Again, if you apply NOW, there’s a very good chance you’ll be accepted.

While all these schools are very appealing, are there any other schools in the California state system, the Pacific Northwest, NY/PA open to me? More options are never a bad thing

Thanks for all the help, you guys have given me some hope for the future. I’m gonna head to bed now and I’ll check this thread first thing in the morning to talk college

All of these would be options…

Portland State
Idaho
Montana
Montana State

Washington State might also be an option although not guaranteed like the above.
