Help for a friend

A friend of mine has an 18 on his ACT and a 2.9 GPA with no extracurriculars. What can he do besides Community College. We currently reside in Illinois? and he is not interested in retaking the ACT because he is stubborn as hell.

I can think of at least two options - Very small Liberal Arts Colleges will often look at the person more than the grades…There are probably 5-10 of those schools in the Illinois area, but before you go down that road, might I suggest the option of a Community College that has housing?

You might look at Lincoln College.

Possibilities (public)
Illinois State University
SIU Carbondale
NIU
UI - Springfield

Realistically he’s just slightly under the national average in terms of GPA and ACT scores. That means that he still has plenty of choices although the privates and publics he’s competitive for do not award much need based aid beyond what is federally determined.

Thanks for everyones help, I will relay this to him.

How much can he afford? There are a number of private schools that will likely offer a more supportive environment than some of the Illinois publics he can get into.
