This past week, the owner of the firm College Funding Specialists - presented at the Round Rock Public Library. At that session he promised a free session at his office to discuss our finances - and it (as expected) turned out to be a sales pitch for his services.
My question for the guru’s on here is - has anyone on here used an agency to help with filling out the FAFSA and CSS profile? Were they of any help - do you think you would have fared (or come out) better had you done all the spadework on your own? Would you sign a ‘Power of Attorney’ form and pay a $1395 upfront fee as well as a $39.95 monthly fee for the duration of your college education (4 years)
I can’t really help you, but you might get more feedback if you put this question on the financial aid forum. It is definitely more active than this one and people there are more informed about stuff like this. Good luck!
I sure wouldn’t. You have to answer the same set of questions in the end, whether you tell this guy or enter it yourself. You can come out here with questions. And what is this monthly fee for?? You fill out the forms once a year. Anyone who needs FA should NOT spend this money.
intparent - thanks for the response. I do agree that those (esp needing FA) should not resort to this. The monthly fee is $39.95 per month for 48 months.
foliotai - thanks for the response. WiIl also post in the financial aid forum.
This is a scam IMO. Run away. The FAFSA and CSS can be filed out intelligently with a bit of googling and proper research.
