Help from a friend?

My friend wrote his essay for Princeton ("who is the most influential person in your life") about me. It was really sincere and I was very touched. He suggested that I put his essay in my Penn application because it would show a different aspect of me (supporting and influential friend). At first I thought it was a brilliant idea. However, now I think there's a great possibility that Penn will see this as either superfluous or possible even pretentious. What do you think?

Although it seems like a good Idea, Penn would have no way of knowing that you’re friend actually wrote it. They could easily think you just made this to shamelessly promote yourself. A little risky IMO.

What if my friend and/or guidance counselor signs it?

Anyone else?

I wouldn’t attach it. That’s just me, though.

Anyone think it’s a good idea? Assuming that my friend signs his essay confirming it is his work…

no offense or anything since I understand this a completely legitimate concern you have, but whats the point of asking if you’re just looking for a confirmation? kind of reminds me of chance threads.

Well I basically want to know if this will hurt my application or not. So far people are giving me the feeling that it will. I am just curious if anyone has the opposite view

Have you asked your GC? Perhaps in your GC’s letter she could reference this essay & attach. (Then it is not coming from you.)

college application is very personal. They want to see how YOU present YOU to them. If you have personal character that influences your friends, you can state it in your essay or personal statement. The officers may be touched by your personality too because they are human being. This may be a more effective way.

Attaching friend’s essay with your app looks not that great. Don’t try to add anything extra than the application requires.

k thank you very much for the advice
