Hey everyone, this is my first post (so excited!!). I am currently a freshman at the University of Illinois.

One thing I experienced when entering college was that I had no idea what dormitory to choose. In response, I created a website where college students can rate their previous dorms which will allow future college residents make a better decision when it comes to their dorms. I have a few questions though, how do you think I could market this site? Do you think this would be helpful? Any suggestions or comments would be great! Thanks for your time.

the website is dormadvisor.com if you need to check it out to give me any suggestions

have you tried advertising on Facebook? Create group or put flyers or something. By the way, I think that's a pretty good idea that you have there, at least for incoming freshman. It's similar to RateMyProfessor.

You might try to add in the ability for users to put up images. Allows people to get a better idea of what the dorms look like.

I have tried using facebook and have received roughly 200 ratings so far. Wow, I never thought about pictures, that's a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well since the majority of your target seem to be high school students how about sites like myspace.com or sconex.com. There is bound to be seniors there that will be interested.

Also you might want to find a way to allow users to post links to the school's website section for ResLife. In addition, you'll probably want to be able to distinguish different campuses for a school. My school has multiple campuses and so it might confuse the user if they're looking at all the dorms under one university when in reality the dorms vary from campus to campus. Plus another nice thing would be to let users know which dorms are undergrad or grad, on-campus or off-campus housing, and which ones are for: fr, sp, jr, and sr. This might help transfer students.

Can you add it to google? I like the site, but what does private or public housing mean when you try and add a rating?

Yea I don't get the public or private housing. I've registered some of the dorms from my college but all under public since I'm not sure what that means.

Public vs. Private may only be relevant at places like U of I. For instance, some of the dorms are public (owned by the college) while others are privately ran (sort of like apartments).
