I just got my first SAT scores back (happy joy! They were decent!), and I was all proud to be able to write them on my college mail replies, but my hopes were dashed by the reporting format. I was given Verbal___ CR____ Math____. Does CR mean critical reading or combined results or cabbage ragout or what? If it means critical reading, isn't that the same as verbal? Or is verbal the same as writing?

I'm sorry, I don't know whether this should go in the college admissions or the SAT forum.

Thank you!

Before the SAT was changed to three sections out of a total of 2400 points, it had two sections, Math and Verbal, that added up, obviously, to 1600 points. The changes several years ago slightly modified the Verbal section, now renamed Critical Reading, and added the writing section.

So Critical Reading is essentially the same as Verbal was, but without analogies.

edit: Oh wow, I didn't see that they gave you CR and Verbal. I misunderstood. That's really weird. Whichever has a subscore out of 80 is your writing score.

Yes... where's your writing score? You shouldn't have Verbal on your report.

Yeah, I thought it was weird too... they didn't give me what each section was out of, so I'm really confused now. >.< My CR and my writing scores were only 10 points apart (780, 770/77)- if I just put them in a random not-math spot, do you think it would matter?

Wow, I feel like an idiot. You mean that that is how the form is structured on colleges' information cards?

I thought you meant that that was how College Board returned your scores to you. I apologize. I guess call the college to figure out what they meant.

oops, sorry, I should have been clearer ^.^ It's just kalamazoo, so I'm not really worried, I just won't send in the card.
