Help! Huge dilemma between CC or CSU!

So, my main goal is to transfer to a UC school.

Right now, I SIR'd to CSU San Marcos and I applied to Orange Coast College, which I got into.

I want to mainly transfer into UCI or UCLA eventually, but any other UC is fine by me.

The question is, I'm not sure if I should start at CSU San Marcos or Orange Coast College! My sister tells me that I should go to CSU San Marcos and try to transfer there because CC's are impacted and I could end up transferring longer than two years. She also says that if I don't do well, then I could potentially be stuck at CC and end up not getting a bachelor's degree altogether. She said staying at a CSU will get me a bachelor's degree, even if I don't end up transferring.

But, UC's take transfers mainly from CC, right? So I have a much better shot at transferring to UCI/UCLA from OCC. CC is also a lot cheaper too and since I'm from San Diego, I can move out of the house which I've always wanted to do. But my sister says with my race (asian), sex (male), and major (Computer engineering), it's going to be hard for me to even transfer from a CC as well.

So, I don't know which is the right thing to do!

If a UC is your goal, I would stick to a CC. I’m going to CSU looking to transfer to UCLA and you have no idea how much I am kicking myself for not going to a CC instead. It would have been so much easier for me to get in to UCLA, but it is still possible! Just do this: make sure your CC is away from your hometown. You need space to grow away from the comfort of your city. Make new friends, have new experiences, and discover more about yourself. Also, more importantly, make sure you know where you want to go and what they require. Make sure your classes all qualify for transfer credit so you don’t waste anytime. If you work hard, you will be fine. Best of luck.
