HELP! I can't decide what is more important

The main two schools that I am looking at are UMass Amherst and RIT. I want to major in computer science and they are both very good schools for that major. However, UMass is ranked much higher for computer science and I feel like their program is actually slightly better than RIT's. But I feel like RIT is a much nicer school overall as far as their campus and overall academic toughness goes. I don't like UMass nearly as much as I like RIT, but I feel like I might get a better degree from UMass for my specific major, even if RIT is the more selective and better school overall.

So I guess my question is...what is more important? Going to a school that offers the best possible undergraduate program for your desired major or going to the school that offers a slightly less quality program because you like their school better as a whole?

I feel like I might not be making any sense here but just try to help me out. Like is it really worth going to a school that you don't like as much as another just to get a slightly better degree?

Are you asking whether you should bother to apply to both of them? If you like both of them reasonably well, go ahead and apply. Don’t worry about deciding between A and B until you have been admitted by both, and you have both institution’s financial aid offers on the table. At that time you may well find that B’s better aid offer suddenly makes all the difference.

Assuming you are accepted by both schools and financial aid offers are equivalent . . .

What matters most in college is your performance, and the happier you are, the better you will perform. So pick the school that YOU like better!
