Help, I messed up!!!

Ok, so this is about Subject tests, but this forum tends to get more traffic.

Ok, so math is not my strong point. I'm better at History (790 SATII) and English in school.

Now, I got a 690 in CR, so that is not amazing and a 700 in M on the SAT I.

But, I signed up for the Sat II this Saturday and I'm taking Math 2 and Lit. I've heard Lit is hard, but I'm not really worried about that, I'm worried about Math.

I did terrible on a practice test (like barely 600) and I'm really worried. I'm in AB Calc and I struggle with math and I need to brush up on a lot of things. I brushed up on some things, but there is no way I can learn conic functions and things like that adequately in 2.5 days.

But some of my schools are super anal (Boston College) about needing ALL materials by Jan. 1, so Dec. is the last SAT date.

But BC only requires 2 SAT IIs and I already have a good history score.

I'm also applying to Georgetown and they are really wonderful with their SAT II policy... they want three /sarcasm. But they also seemed flexible to accept Jan tests at the latest.

UVa and Cornell also want/recommend 2, but I'm hoping I can get at least a 650 on Lit. Therefore a 790 USH and a ~650 Lit wouldn't look too bad to UVa, Cornell and BC, GU would have two ok scores and would be waiting on a third.

Then I thought about an idea. College Board said you can sign up for one test and then take another, what if I take Math 1? I know the curve is supposedly harsher, but on Math 2 I have to omit at least 10 and would probably get around 10 wrong.

Well, I really thought this whole process out...not!

Help!

Right now I'm leaning towards taking Lit and Math 1 this Saturday.

Edit: Ok, UVa prefers Dec. as the last test date, but they will take Jan. Subject tests. Sounds like GU might as well, so that is good.

I'm not sure about Cornell and BC needs everything, including test scores, by 1 January, so December would be the last possible for them.

But luckily BC is not a top choice of mine and they only need two, same with Cornell.

and when I done with this whole process, I am going to make a thread chronicling how stupid I was throughout this whole SAT (I and II) process, even WITH the help of CC, haha. Maybe it will help some kid avoid my mistakes

Programming information into your calculator helps to solve this.

I’ve heard many horror stories about people trying to switch from Math 2 to Math 1 at the last minute; it’s an abrupt change and just because Math 1 is less math-intensive does not mean that you will be getting a higher score. Do you really remember all that Geo?

…Yep I just looked at Math 1. Its easier, no doubt…but everyone at my school struggles in Geometry because our Honors Geo teacher didn’t teach us a thing. Our GCs thought we cheated off each other on the PSAT because eveyone did so poorly on the Geometry questions.

And the curve for Math 1 is pretty tough…ugh.

So I guess, my options are:

A. Just take Lit this Saturday
then reguister for Jan test for Math 2, and study of C-mas break
Rely on Lit for 2nd SAT 2 for BC and Cornell

B. Take a Lit and Math 1…yeah not gonna do this one

C. Take Lit and Math 2…probably get 600-630 on Math 2 (and hopefully no less)

Leaning towards option A. Hell, since I registered for 2, might retake history. I was dumb and guessed wildy on 2 questions and got a 790…could have been the difference.
But that would be silly.

Thanks for the advice

Just to add on, you should probably be doing a good amount of studying for Lit. The curve for this test is horrible (800 = -1), which is why most view it as the hardest SAT 2.

Yeah, I know, whchc is why I’m thinking about not doing Math 2, in order to spend more time on Lit.

And its why, with studying at this point, I’m not really expecting to break 700 and to be quite honest, I would be content with a score in the 660-680 range. Heck, if I get a 680, I’d be pretty pleased and that would be good enough for the schools that want two subject tests.

Thanks
