That was supposed to say “banned.” Sorry for all the terrible spelling mistakes I can’t correct.

Really? And in what websites did you look at? As far as my Canadian research goes, Canada is rich but it’s very selfish with immigrant students, and the colleges are very expensive. What I know is that Canada keeps thorwing money at immigrant workers because they want people to go and work with them, but that’s other thing.

Haha I could apply anywhere in the world man, and I have chances of getting accepted. The thing is money! There’s not a single university that’s worth $5k a year. Just the ones in my country are worth that, and the universities that seem “cheaper” don’t offer financial aid to international.
There may be universities subsidized by the government, but the benefits of that go to domestic students, not intenational students.

I would love to study in USA, UK, Canada, Germany, France or Australia, but the economic factor is a thing I don’t fulfill in any of those places.

I hope you can go and study abroad too man! Thanks for all your advices :)

Yes I looked at this website: [Tuition fees by university](http://www.aucc.ca/canadian-universities/facts-and-stats/tuition-fees-by-university/) It has the cost for Canadian students and for international students.

The ones in Finland (I think) are around $5k a year, or if you’re willing to learn Finnish you can apply to the University of Tampre because it’s free for everyone but they don’t teach in English. All you have to pay for is your room etc.

I know how you feel, I’ve given up on my US college dreams because of the cost and the little financial aid that I would get :(

You’re welcome. I also hope you can go too because I believe that everyone regardless of race and income should be allowed to :D

Oh, I didn’t saw that link. Going to research some this afternoon. Thanks!

Really? I didn’t know about that in Finland, but the thing is I know NOTHING about it. I don’t even know if they have my career or if they have good education, plus I can’t learn Finnish in just a year. I doubt there are Finnish courses here in my country.

Yeah… it sucks. Unless you’re perfectly smart (2400 SAT score and 4.0 GPA) there’s no way you could attend an American university without money. It’s sad, but we have to deal with that. I’m just getting prepared to study here because I know I won’t be accepted, or if I am, I won’t be offered any aid. Wish I could exchange with you lol. I would love to study in the UK! The people are very kind and very open minded. The only problem would be the British accent. It’s hard for me to understand British English.

Thank you again! Are you still applying for the US? To what colleges are you applying?

You’re welcome.

Yeah neither did I until I saw about it on here so it’s pretty handy to know really. Yeah having to learn Finnish is the only downside. :(

Same, I don’t really want to go here though so I’ll apply but doubt I’ll attend. Oh luckily I understand most British accents but as you move further up the country you can’t understand what they’re saying as it sounds like they have their own language… And lucky me I just live there! When talking to the older generation you have to listen very carefully otherwise your like ‘‘sorry can you repeat that please’’ haha.

You’re welcome. Honestly,I don’t know, I haven’t taken the SAT because I’d fail it (I’m a really bad exam taker yet I seem a lot better at essays. Also the exam centers are like 4 hours away from my house and because of school and work comitments I can’t make nor afford to go down) But if I somehow do find the money to apply I will be applying to:

Flagler College (Florida) I LOVE their campus, it’s minutes away from the sea and I like the course. It’s not too big and not too small.

University of Louisville: Once again I like the course and the location because it’s in the city which I like the idea of living in.

University of Oregon: Great FA and it seems like a place I would like to go.

Ole Miss: Same as above

Roger Williams: I love the campus, once again it’s beautiful and looks like a holiday resort but also like the course and they give FA and not too expensive.

As you probably realised I’m not into ‘‘named schools’’ I’d love to apply to them and go but a: they’re too expensive. b: I’d never get accepted. Although my ‘‘dream schools are’’
NYU
UCLA
and Yale.

Where are you applying to? Or your dream schools?

I found these scholarship websites and thought I would share them with you not, sure if you’ve seen them but oh well:

[International Scholarships for Developing Countries | 2013-2014 Scholarships for Development](http://www.scholars4dev.com)
https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/scholarship-search
[ScholarshipExperts.com: Scholarships, Free Scholarships, College Scholarships, Scholarship Search](http://www.scholarshipexperts.com/)

And there’s this http://www.edupass.org/finaid/undergraduate.phtml
It’s a list of schools that offer financial aid for international students, it’s not a big list but they’re split into a range of numbers and each institution is put into one of them.

Haha yeah. I won’t apply though, but thanks for the suggestion!

Oh really? I thought all the British understood one another! I know you’re the original English form but it’s still very complex. Like, instead of saying “water” you guys say “wotah” if you know what I mean. It may be, though, because I was taught the American version of the English. But I still love British people and the UK! Such a marvelous country to live in and study.

Oh really? Yeah… standarized tests can be annoying. I myself suck at doing them. I get too nervous that I take a lot of time in solving it. That’s why I got a low score. I left like 10 CR questions in blank. And I’m sorry you’re having hardships for applying to the US. It really sucks because it’s not really your fault. I know what that feels. It sucks to have economic problems because it’s not your fault (nor your parent’s), and you can’t do anything about that.

Amazing! I just look at those colleges and I found Flager’s and Roger Williams’s campus gorgeous! Too bad they don’t offer FA to international students

Haha I also would love to attent NYU and UCLA! Those universities are amazing, but the requirements for entrance are so high, and UCLA doesn’t even offers merit-bases FA to international students.

I’m applying to a few colleges (didn’t had enough money to apply to more).
Hopefully I will attend: Gettysburg, St. Olaf, Wooster, Trinity, Colby, Manhattanville, UOregon or USF.

My dream school and top college choice is SCU (Santa Clara University). I LOVE that university. Its campus is beautiful, the academic enviroment is outstanding and the student and campus life is amazing! In my opinion, SCU is the best university in the US. Sadly, they do not offer FA to international students (just a maximum $15k merit-based) and the yearly cost of attendance is $60000. VERY expensive… It really sucks. I would have LOVED to attend that university.

Oh wow! Thanks for the help man! I’ll start looking at those tomorrow because I have to go and sleep now! You really didn’t have to do all that, but thank you!

I really hope you can find the money or economic means to study in your dream schools. The good thing is that you don’t need the TOEFL! Hahahaha

No we don’t, everywhere in the UK has a different accent, believe it or not but somewhere 10 minutes down the road from me has a different accent than I do! No that way of saying ‘water’ is not used everywhere, over here many people like me pronounce it like you do but the others pronounce it like watta which is weird when you first hear it but you get used to it. If you listen to a Yorkshire accent (which I have) and then a Manchester and then an East End London one you can definitely see the difference!

Yeah, I get A’s in essays yet D’s in exams which sucks! And lucky me I have an exam in less than 4 hours! It’s because the way they teach English in America is different to how we are taught it over here, they use many different words which honestly I have never heard of or have no idea what they mean! I didn’t think your SAT score was that low, especially for someone who’s first language isn’t English!

Yeah I know Flagler doesn’t but it’s fees are a lot lower than many so it’s kind of okay although I do think a little FA couldn’t hurt. Roger Williams offer limited merit based but it’s better than none. Yes both campus’ are beautiful! SCU is on my list too! Not my applying list but my maybe applying list because it was a couple of months ago since I last looked at it properly and well I want to make sure it’s a good fit. Yeah it’s really expensive but if you can find outside scholarships and/or loans it could be possible!

I know but I was looking at them and didn’t really find anything that was for me but there might be some that you can apply for.

What are you planning on majoring and minoring in?

Haha in fact I took a practice TOEFL exam and only got 19/20! Thank you, you too. :)

Lol. Are you serious? Can’t believe people from the same nation have difficulties understanding one another haha, but it’s understandable being that UK is such a huge country.
Oh really? Well, I got used to the water version and I prefer that. Do you say “watta” too?
And I understand what you mean. American English and British English are the same yet different. It’s like Latinos and Spanish people. Most of the time I can’t understand Hispanics. I’m used to the latino spanish and when I hear an hispanic talk I better have a dictionary ready.
Is the London accent consider the universal accent in UK, or something like that?

So you like to read and write a lot, but when it comes to tests you can’t with them? Sorry man. I’ve heard about those cases, which is why universities don’t rely solely on SAT scores. There have been cases with a 4.0 GPA top 5% dudes who have got like 1700 or a little more on their SAT. You just have to focus and practice a lot so you can do great. I’m guessing you want to study journalism or something like that?
And how did you do in your test?

I agree! They all 3 have beautiful campuses, and nice to hear about a dude who also likes SCU! SCU is my dream school, which is why I want to work hard in my undergraduate studies so I can go and do my graduate studies over there. Though, I still want to study there, a lot! Can’t get this feeling out of my body :/

There are? I’m sorry. I still haven’t looked at them. It’s been a busy and nasty week, but tomorrow I’m off so I will look at it the whole afternoon.

I want to major Computer Science, and minoring Programing or Software Engineering. My dream has always been to work with Facebook/Apple/Google/Microsoft. I still think I can do that.
What about you?

Yeah I’m serious. You’re right the London accent is the “UK Accent” somehow a lot of people think that everyone talks like that. No I use water like you but I do know many people that use watta. Wow I thought Spanish was only one language and all Latin and Spanish speaking countries spoke it.

Yeah that’s it. It’s horrible which is why I’m looking at colleges that don’t require the SAT. My exam went okay I somehow arrived nearly 30 minutes late but the exam itself was pretty easy. Apparently if you can do the exam I did today you can pass the SAT maths… That is soooo not true!

Ahh the feeling, I know that very well. Finally someone who understands! Dude? You do know I’m female right?

Aww well it’s the weekend soon and hopefully next week will be better for you. :)

How did you know I want to do journalism? I want to do either Journalism, American Studies, theatre studies or performing arts. And minor in criminal studies or something like that.

Wow that sounds interesting well good luck :)

Wow. If you can’t understand some people then I will be even worse! Possibly like if they’re speaking to me in Chinese lol. I imagined that London was the most accepted accent. You understand that, or is it complex?
We speak the same Spanish. However each Spanish country has his own colloquialism and accents, which makes it hard to understand. For example, a Salvadoran will have come trouble speaking with a Mexican due to the different words they use to express things. Mexicans say “Me Late”, which is similar to “That’s fine with me”. Here in El Salvador we say "Verg

Does anyone knows of LAC that has DEADLINES ON MARCH and offer GOOD FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIPS to INTERNATIONAL students?
I’m searching some webpages but I can’t find any. Most had deadlines on January.

Anyone here can help me?

Haha, indeed it’s very different. In Mexico, "verg

I somewhat understand the London accent, it depends on what area, like the cockney slang I have no idea what they’re talking about!

I never knew there was a difference between Spanish and Mexican, thank you for sharing that.

No where I live isn’t bad but they only offer the SAT at the international schools which are miles from my house.

Awww it’s fine, it’s difficult to know the gender of people over the Internet.

I can’t do Science or maths either so don’t feel bad about it.

Also about the March deadlines you want to apply to the ones that have rolling admissions, meaning they’re open all year but there’s a cut off point for which class you will be in.

Guitar500: Thank you, I have to wait another year anyway as I’m doing my diploma over here and have another year left. Yeah I’ve heard about Smith, I would apply to them but they’re highly selective(?) and get numerous applications from needy internationals, I mean what makes me different from the other 1000+ that apply?

Oh wow. This is a very interesting fact. Can’t believe that the English from a same country can have such great variances. Thanks for the info! Which accent you consider is the most complex?

Lol not Mexican and Spanish, but Latino and Spanish haha. Yes, there is, and a huge different! I’ve heard Spanish and Latino dubs for some TV Series and they’re WAY too different. It’s sometimes hard for me to get the idea from the Spanish accent, and there’s also a great difference in the different latin american countries’s accent.

Oh, I get you know. Really? That seems kind of unfair. If you are decided to take it how will you get there? I guess you drive and have your own car?
And yes. There are some colleges and universities that don’t require the SAT for International Students; just the TOEFL, but in your case, you don’t need the TOEFL! which would be cheaper for you.
Sadly, I just know that the University of Oregon doesn’t requires the SAT for international students :(. Sorry. I didn’t do my college search last year and I’m facing the consequences…
There are also some top LACs that are test-optional for International Students; though, many still think it’s a bad idea not send scores to them, but you can still try!
Are you doing the IB? I heard that the IB is more common and more popular in the UK.

Haha thanks. It’s nice to see some smart girls who are in my same situation.

Haha that’s so typical! I know a few people who are studying Design, Tourism, and Law, and they hate mathematics so badly. I also have know of some guys studying engeneering and they hate the philosophy course that they take on their first term.

Yes! I guess that’s my only chance now since I should have made this thread on DECEMBER! Not now =/

So do you or ANYONE ELSE knows of ROLLING basis colleges or universities that offer GOOD FINANCIAL AID to INTERNATIONAL students? Please help a guy in need
Sorry for the trouble

Either the Cockney accent or the Newcastle.

Oh I’m sorry! I can’t believe they’re so different, I honestly expected them to be very similar, like English and American English similar!

I would have to get the train because I can’t drive sadly. Aww, that’s why I’m starting mine earlier, I just need to narrow down the ones in the UK and go on many visits which is going to be quite expensive! I’m going to be going all around the country, and some weeks I have as many as 3 campus tours! No I’m not doing the IB, it isn’t that big over here honestly, I did my GCSE’s and then did a diploma in childcare and education and was supposed to be applying for college/uni and would have started in September of 2012 but because I didn’t think I wanted to go I didn’t apply, but then because of a family loss and uninterest in the subject I didn’t get the grades I was expected so I wouldn’t get in to any of the better colleges, so I decided to do my BTEC diploma in Media which is a lot better than childcare. And at the end hopefully I’ll leave college with 6 A Levels at the grades of A-C!

What are you doing? Is your education system very similar to the US?

I don’t know if these give aid to internationals but here’s a list of rolling admissions: [ListAfterList.com - Colleges with Rolling Admissions](http://www.listafterlist.com/tabid/57/listid/12798/Education++History/Colleges+with+Rolling+Admissions.aspx) so you’ll just have to filter through them and find the ones that you like the most :D

Haha I’m sorry. I don’t know those places, but I get your idea. Can’t believe there are differences.

Yeah, believe it, but it’s mostly the accent and the words they use to express ideas. For example, Spanish people say “vale” to say okay. Here in my country we say the word “chivo” or simply “esta bien”. I don’t know of other latin american countries.

Ah, I’m sorry for that! But at least you know which trains to take? I love trains! Too bad my country is so underdeveloped that we might never have that.
Yeah, the earlier the better! Trust me… I was such a stupid boy before. Didn’t know what I was thinking. Good luck with the Unis you choose! :)

Oh wow. It seems like you have specialized in some particular things. That’s cool! I guess that after High School you have been studying in specific areas?
And I’m really sorry. I hardly got the idea of what you mean with all those letters but I’m guessing they’re UK high school equivalents, right?

Right now I’m going to college pre-courses. My parents don’t really have faith in me and they are 100% sure that the US won’t give me something… It’s sad, but I’m here in my own, so they signed me in for some pre-courses so that if by the end I start going to college on July.

Thanks! I’ll began to narrow down choices tomorrow! Right now I got an ugly flew and allergy I can barely talk and use the computer. Thanks for your help! :)

Oh, and my education system is nothing alike the US one. Over here High School is called “Bachillerato” and it consists of only 10th and 11th grade. On the US all high schools have up to 12th grade (some even have 13th grade!) and the grade system over here is on a 10-scale, although my school does the American GPA too.
The education from my school is similar to the US on the school year: we enter school on August, have a winter break, and we finish a year on June to prepare for summer vacations

Caveat: Many colleges listed in EduPass only offers partial aid. Double check their financial aid policy before you jump to conclusion.

Anyway, seems like we are the boatman of two same wrecked boat. I’ll be applyling too next year I hope!

Well Cockney is an East London accent, where the they used to speak rhyming slang etc and Newcastle is up North, right near Scotland.

No I don’t know which trains to take and I never went to see any of them like I had hoped!

Yeah after high school you can study 3/4 different subjects but instead I decided to study one subject and then move onto a different one, not my best idea but oh well. Well the GCSE’S are a leaving exam which we take when we’re 15-16 but can be resat at any age. And the diploma is where you study one subject for two years and also a leaving certificate.

Aww my mum told me to look at scholarships, she obviously has no idea how difficult it is but finally believes in me (which is good because I don’t believe in myself and weirdly neither does my tutor!) Pre-college courses might be good for you though, think of them as way to help you get into the US. Your curriculum might be a lot easier (just an example) so they can help you learn some of the things that you’re going to be learning about when you go to college.

Oh dear, hope you’re feeling better.

Yeah yours is very different to mine, we finish in the end of the July and go back in the beginning of September, but now I finish in June and go back in September :)

Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been really busy and unsure about if going to a college/uni is even for me! :(
