Help with finding colleges!

Hi, I am an international student from Sweden with an SAT of 2000 and GPA of 3.86/4.00 unweighted. I have applied to these colleges for now: Depauw U, Dickinson C, Franklin and Marshall C, Gettysburg C and St. Lawrence U. I will probably also apply to College of Wooster and some more colleges that I haven't pinpointed yet.

I have in my previous posts stated that I will apply for full need, but that is not quite true; I will be able to contribute with an absolute maximum of 25 k through loans mostly, but also summer jobs. Hopefully I don't need to pay more than 20 k a year though. I have not decided which types of colleges I would rather attend, but I would prefer a residential college (for 2 years at least), coed (about 50/50), but it doesn't matter that much if it is a small or large school since I haven't got a clue where I would fit in best.

Are there any good State Universities with late application deadlines and maybe even some merit aid for international students which you guys could recommend? I have a list of possible schools that you may comment on as well if they fit my needs:

Allegheny College
Arizona State University
University of Arizona
Hendix College
Kansas State University
University of Central Florida

List is not finished, will upload some more colleges in an hour! I know they don't have much in common but I cannot afford to be picky! Any help is much appreciated!

I meant Hendrix College btw.

Continuing with my list:

University of Kansas
University of Minnesota - twin cities
the University of North Carolina at Asheville (and Greensboro)
University of South Florida
University of Iowa

Any other tips?

I think most of the colleges that change lives would be a good bet. You can google that.

Do you realize that many of the application deadlines have unfortunately already passed?

Public universities don’t give out financial aid to internationals. If those university of ** or state university of *** are not within your means at full cost, you should better not apply.

Any preferences concerning vibe, size, location?

Yeah, I have checked those out. Will look into them again!

I don’t think any deadlines have passed, but am a bit unsure about U of Minnesota - Twin cities since they don’t seem to have a deadline.

Some of the state universities do give out merital aid for international students, but I am not sure if I would be qualified for it at all those schools. That is one topic I need some more info on.

I think I would prefer a college in New England, but I am not sure. I think I am open to most environments, but I would perhaps fit better at a residential college with a community feel to it. That would be nice! I also like mountains but that is not a must.

I don’t know much about the particulars of financial aid for the schools, but I can comment on the locations of some of them.

University of AZ in Tucson AZ. Tucson has grown into a , sprawling city located in a large desert basin. Lovely scenic mountains are visible, but off in the distance. Day trips to the mountains are of course, a possibility, but you are definitely not in a mountain environment. Does not have a residential community feel to it, IMO. Intense desert climate.

Arizona State U, in Phoenix, is in even a larger metro area. Tucson feels cozy by comparison. Also has an intense desert climate.

Northern AZ State U (you didn’t list it but I am adding just for your info) in Flagstaff is nestled in the mountains out of the desert influence and even has 4 distinct seasons. Has a much smaller and community feel to it.

University of Iowa is located in a mid-sized town with a lot of amenities for its size. I think the population doubles when school is in session. Down town area of Iowa City is heavily dominated by the U. While I think the U is pretty large for having a strong residential feel to it the U exerts such influence over the town, it does end up with a certain coherent feel. The U seems sprawled out with small clusters of buildings grouped together. Plus, the campus is divided by a river…which sometimes floods. Cold winter climate (probably nothing you haven’t seen though :)). No mountains. But plenty of corn fields and hog farms.

Good luck!

It gets harder to get into rolling admissions college as you get later in their cycle, so even if the date has not passed, you are not helping yourself because applications have been open for quite a while at many of those schools. Also, need based financial aid (what is available for internationals) tends to go to those who get their FA information in earlier as well.

I am glad you have Hendrix on your list. The college has a growing number of international students and is known to be generous with merit aid. The campus has a strong sense of community, the academics are excellent, and it is in a decent small town just a half hour from Little Rock, a fun small-ish city. It is also very close to the Ozarks and other beautiful natural areas. My son goes there and loves it. Please feel free to PM me if you would like more information.

Sorry, misunderstanding, I meant the deadlines of many colleges out there that I would have suggested, such as the ones you have already applied to!

That surprises me, actually. Good for you! You can probably just check out the websites, there is always an international student section. You are a good student, you might qualify for merit aid at some of your schools!

Wait a sec, I’ll post a list if schools where uou can still apply:
