Help in deciding High School for 11th grade in New Jersey, USA

The student is moving to New Jersey, not Colorado.

I live in CT. No open choice here for high school at all.

Some public high schools will take tuition paying students in states where open choice isn’t an option. Student applies and then if accepted pays tuition to attend. Student would need to provide their own transportation.

I guess my question to the OP…why is your family moving to Newark?

And I’ll echo what someone else said…attending some particular high school is NOT a ticket for acceptance to elite colleges where the acceptance rate is in single digits anyway.

FYI OP created thread on July 31st, (that was their only post) and haven’t returned since.

And never answered any of the questions posted upstream either…

Oh well. Maybe reading but not signed in??

They are going to have to pay for these public high schools as well. Also- the student may have to provide their own transportation.

Not if they choose a different town. Not sure why the OP’s parents are choosing Newark. Not much public option there for an academically motivated 11th grader so if they have a choice there are many options.

Paying for high schools outside of the district unless there are special needs is rare now in New Jersey highly rated schools. Some districts have reciprocal agreements but paying to go to highly rated public high schools is not common anymore (at least in Bergen).

The family would need to reside in a different town if they don’t want to pay tuition in NJ…and want to be guaranteed admission to a public high school there. Schools do not have to accept tuition students.

This OP hasnt answered any of the questions posed upstream. Until he or she does…all of this discussion is sort of not relevant maybe.

Yes, they would have to move to one of those towns, and they are very expensive.

FYI there are some Bergen County towns where parents think nothing of sending their students to different high schools that they feel are “better” or “wealthier.”

Yes, I live in Bergen, we picked our town for the schools as did almost everyone else in the town!

Bergen County is VERY expensive. Does this family have the money to move to Ridgewood, Allendale, Upper Saddle River, Ramsey, Tenafly, Demerest, etc? Maybe they do- we don’t know.
